Soft bodied. Light roast. Some chocolate. Hint of vanilla. Solid stout, but when there are so many good things around this is hard to recommend.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 25, 2013
My Bottom Line:
Butterscotch, caramel and light roastiness fail to whip up something close to the Stout billing.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the dark brown haze.
-Flavor profile is quite sweet.
-The loose sugars and soft bubbling make this somewhat drinkable.
-I am not too enthusiastic about trying the rest of their lineup after this poor attempt at the Stout category.
Bottle.

A bottle from Yamaoka, it pours a dark reddish brown with a minimal tan head. A nice caramel malt aroma. The flavor is quite sweet, a bit rough. An ok stout but nothing special. Hopefully, Nagisa will improve this beer over time. Decent for a first try at a dark beer...

Bottle at RBJG 2 Grand Tasting, thanks TimE. Brown colour with a small off-white head. Little lacing. Sweet roasted coffee aroma. Rather mild coffee flavour.

very light body, light roasty, not much character. Boring, middle of the road stout.

Bottle. Poured dark brown/black with fluffy tan head. Nose of brown sugar, malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Sticky and creamy, but overall a very pleasant texture. Flavoursome nicely balanced. This was the first beer ive had from this brewery , but quite impressed. A satisfying brew.

Bottle from Hasegawa. Dark brown small golden head. Aroma is chocolate, touch of fruit, bit of soy sauce, savoury, roasty too. Taste is nice too, nice roastiness, slightly sweet maltiness. See what Kyoto Lefty meant with the cola element. Pretty decent, and very drinkable. Not mind-blowing, but perfectly tasty.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 KyotoLefty (4777) - Kyoto, JAPAN - FEB 12, 2013
Bottle from Yamaoka. Nose of roasty cocoa, chocolate, cream, a touch of berries. Big cocoa, not quite burnt. Almost black with a tall, fine head. Roasty flavor, lightly woody, with cocoa and coffee. Rather sweet, rich umami, but ends semi-dry with a bit of burnt malts. Slightly fruity with some cola flavors. Tasty enough, though not very special.
