Clout Stout is a Russian Imperial Stout brewed for the beer connoisseur with the patience to age his/her beer. Poured from the bottle it is black and thick, initially sweet and full bodied before developing into a smooth, bittersweet finish. 10.6% ABV gives Clout Stout huge complexity and depth - each sip warms and hypnotizes the drinker.

The aroma is of roast coffee beans. It is initially spicy at start but it settles down. There is a slice of licorice and chocolate but it gives way to a luxury mouthfeel that is creamy malt. Finishes bitter. Quality brew. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Tap @ Alehouse Project, Melbourne (2015 release). Pours matt black with a small beige head. A Russian Imperial stout with lots of rich dark chocolatey malts, dark fruits, burnt caramel, alcohol and expresso coffee on the nose and tongue. Rich creamy warming full body with a velvet smooth texture and intense flavours. Quite sweet overall. One to sip and savour.

Pours jet black with a beige head. Coffee, vanilla, earth, chocolate and slight smoke on the nose. Complexity on the palate is amazing with Vanilla, raisin, dark chocolate, coffee, spice and a perfectly integrated bitterness. Flavour lingers for a very long time with plenty of alcohol warmth to carry it through. Very good stout that I can’t wait to have again.

Draught @ GABS Melbourne 2015 Stoked to find this on offer at the Nail Brewing stand! Sinister black beer, next to no head, a brown ring persists. Deliciously rich aroma; dark chocolate, treacle, milk chocolate, dark/dried fruits. Thick, potent, liqueur-like on body. Warming, intense, lots of espresso & dark chocolate, supported by dark vinous fruits & raisins. Really good, falls a touch short of the best though.

On tap at Catfish after a GABS session. Very well-executed RIS with dark roasted notes with some alcohol burn.

Mini growler, 14C. Black with a tan head that sticks around as a coat w spots of lace. Aroma of coffee, molasses, heavy roast, dark berries, licorice, some lighter spicy sweetmeats and floral notes. Alcohol noticeable. Smooth, oily texture. Sweet with dark berries, plums and coffee, roast and some ash come in after a while. Bitterness creeps up and the finish is dry with lingering coffee, tar and a little booze. The balance is _really_ nice though - there’s enough sweetness that it doesn’t seem over-dry or acrid, but not so much that it seems to need cleaning up. Really like that the complexities are ornaments complementary to the main themes. No newfangled hops or spirits, just a big stout with spandrels. Very good indeed.

Tap at Sail and Anchor. Generous plum and raisin/choc aromas are backed up by a lustrous, velvety mouth-feel with hits of the promised plum and choc, backed up by some toffee-like flavours and a little hint of vanilla.

Tap @ Scratch Bar as part of the Weekend of Darkness event 190714. The bottled version is one of the more expensive beers in Australia and I’m glad I was able to sample it on tap. While this is a very good beer it wasn’t worth the $10 for a $150ml glass.
