From a bottle. Pours a very dark brown, very thick with a tiny cream head, very smooth with chocolate and coffee flavours, mild roasted aroma, only a hint of the hops. I love this!

From 330 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with brick-red highlights at the edges and a frothy but subsiding cream head. Aromas are fairly subdued but there’s some cocoa powder, raisins and caramel coming through. Taste is much fuller, with rich toffee, stewed fruit, coffee and vanilla. Lingering spicy finish.

Really, really good. A spicy, peppery nose with hits of mocha yields to a symphony of licorice, leather, coffee and chocolate on the taste front. A lower carbonation brings out it’s lustrous and thick mouth-feel and leaves a perfectly balanced boozy/chocolate taste lingering.

Bottle from The Wine Emporium December 2013. Big bold brown ale with a thick full body. Quite malty with a long finish. Nice.

Dark brown. Aroma is definitely muted - some dark malt coming out. Taste is full bodied and rich. Nice toffee flavours rising out. This is a big brown ale. Molasses and roasted tones. Good stuff.

From a 330ml bottle on 13/8/2014. Pours a dark cola colour with a medium off white head. The aroma features some caramel, stewed fruits and some basement notes out of the glass. Take a sip and there’s lots of sweet dark fruit (plums, prunes), caramel and chocolate, with a slightly sharp, boozy bitterness at the back. It has a rich, sticky palate and relatively lively carbonation. This is solid and enjoyable but not overly complex, and simply not in the same class as the Nail Imperial Porter I downed last night.

Bottle. Very dark brown with an inch of beige head. Laces well. Aroma of hazelnuts, sticky fruit buns, chocolate, toasted seaweed. Fairly overt alcohol unhappily masks some of the flavours, but sweet bread, nuts and chocolate come through. Firm bitterness. Booziness really spoils the party for me.

Bottle. Thanks Barry. Deep, murky brown with tan head that dissipates quickly but laces nicely. Heavy nut and cocoa aromas. Roasted hazelnut dominates the flavour profile, with chocolate elements, a hit of alcohol induced warmth (which doesn't detract) and a real Unami like savouriness enveloping the beer. Great depth of flavour and mouthfeel, often missing in English style versions of this style. Magnificent beer. Best brown ale I've had.

maneliquor (3104) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 19, 2014
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Pours dark brown with a lace driven beige head. Nose is very toasty with brown sugar, plum, shortbread and mild pine. Taste is robust and biscuity with mild burnt toast, slight ash, very nutty and almost soy like. Dark fruit focus towards the finish. Doesn’t come together as well as I was hoping. Quite heavy as expected. Fair heat to finish. Not completely balanced. Solid

Sevenlee (1320) - Central Coast, NSW, AUSTRALIA - APR 3, 2014
Pours a murky coppery brown with a creamy brown head. Aroma is malt, caramel, coffee, nuts and sugary notes. Taste is medium sweet leading to a malty and lightly bitter finish. Excellent!
