The nose picks up coffee, toast, burnt sugar, nuts and yeast. Chocolate on the tongue. Gives a reminder of rich Christmas pudding in taste. Beautifully complemented by a port-like touch. Heads stays thick and creamy. Can detect the alcohol but not detrimental. Is better after bottle opened 10 minutes. Classy effort. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Restrained aroma is in contrast to the deep black colour and a sweet malt-forward flavour.A delicious beer that hides it’s strength with ease only gets better as it gets warmer. What’s not to like!

From 330 ml bottle. Pours a dark brown with brick-red highlights at the edges and a frothy but subsiding cream head. Aromas are fairly subdued but there’s some cocoa powder, raisins and caramel coming through. Taste is much fuller, with rich toffee, stewed fruit, coffee and vanilla. Lingering spicy finish.

From a bottle. Pours a very dark brown, very thick with a tiny cream head, very smooth with chocolate and coffee flavours, mild roasted aroma, only a hint of the hops. I love this!

Really, really good. A spicy, peppery nose with hits of mocha yields to a symphony of licorice, leather, coffee and chocolate on the taste front. A lower carbonation brings out it’s lustrous and thick mouth-feel and leaves a perfectly balanced boozy/chocolate taste lingering.

Bottle from The Wine Emporium December 2013. Big bold brown ale with a thick full body. Quite malty with a long finish. Nice.

Dark brown. Aroma is definitely muted - some dark malt coming out. Taste is full bodied and rich. Nice toffee flavours rising out. This is a big brown ale. Molasses and roasted tones. Good stuff.

Maris (1025) - Canberra, AUSTRALIA - AUG 13, 2014
From a 330ml bottle on 13/8/2014. Pours a dark cola colour with a medium off white head. The aroma features some caramel, stewed fruits and some basement notes out of the glass. Take a sip and there’s lots of sweet dark fruit (plums, prunes), caramel and chocolate, with a slightly sharp, boozy bitterness at the back. It has a rich, sticky palate and relatively lively carbonation. This is solid and enjoyable but not overly complex, and simply not in the same class as the Nail Imperial Porter I downed last night.

Pours dark brown with a large head. Nose shows bready and toasty malt along with a hint of banana. Flavours include nutty, bready and toasty malt with some brown sugar, more banana and sharp booze.
