4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
330ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Perfect beer for this wet and rainy Friday afternoon. Pours midnight black, thick like oil. Deep crackling brown crest of foam. Aromas of bitter chocolate and roasted malt. Smooth and very drinkable with a long finish. Very good beer.

3.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
People... no oats used in manufacture, read the label.
Now the review: Poured deep black with thick rich brown head lasted well. Low aroma of sweet malt and light coffee. Initial taste is sweet malt followed by unami which quickly vanishes into straight black coffee. Great strong and long coffee finish. Moderate-full body, thick mouthfeel with soft yet dense carbonation. Very enjoyable.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from mane liquor. Jet black pour with a small tanned head. Not much lacing. Aroma mainly has roasted coffee and malts with some dark chocolate. Taste brings out more roasted coffee and mild bitter chocolate flavours come through as the beer warms. Goes down pretty easy but not amazing

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Oh old friend, how Iíve missed you. Good to see this one clammering back onto the shelves of good bottloís Australia wide. At just on cool and into a tulip it goes. Cola brown to black in the dark but of good clarity. Well conditioned, fine carbonation streams endlessly to atmosphere below the weight of a silky, creamy tannish pad of foam that daubs a thick lace. Unusual nose - though last I tried it back in the day I didnít put much thought into aromatics. Salty brine and kelp precedes a hit of mocha and dusty chocolate, topsoil and damp wood and just a touch of cocoa butter. Creamy, soft and yet full in mouthfeel from the oats. Rather mellowing like a warming glass of bitter sweet chocolate ganache laced with a little over 18ís tipple. Seemingly salty like the nose also having an umami quality. The back end is peppery, floral and earthy amongst the chocolate malt overtones. Long in the swallow a mere continuation of the flavours of the palate. It has a subtle complexity to it that if you turn the brain off allows you to just quaff it all afternoon. Unsure whether Nail have changed the recipe or just refined this one but it is still a delicious stout. Well made! ( 33cL, 2012, Freo Doctor, Fremantle)

330mL bottle. Pours pitch black with a nice big tan head and a big roasted aroma. Flavour is quite intense for a standard stout, lots of ash and roasted coffee notes.

From a 330ml bottle on 23/10/2012. Pours almost black with a small to medium tan head. Has a modest roasty, chocolatey aroma. The flavour follows suit, with milk chocolate and some roasty notes prominent. There is some moderate bitterness to balance what is a relatively sweet stout. A solid effort.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
A-- Poured reddish black, settled jet black. Huge two finger mocha colored head that lasted for a good amount of time before slowly fading away. Head left big streaks of lacing. Looks like lacing from a root beer float. Excellent head retention upon swirling. Right back to two finger height.
S-- Coffee, mocha, brown sugar, roasted malts and roasted oatmeal. Faint bits of lemon citrus also come into the equation.
T-- Bitter chocolate coffee taste but not overwhelming. Reasonably smooth. Roasted malts and oats. A little bit of a lemony sweet and sourness as well.
M-- Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Very smooth and easy to savor. Halfway through the beer the lemon taste drops off and am left with Coffee, dark chocolate and soft oats. Very well done.
D-- Smooth and easy to drink.
