Oh old friend, how I’ve missed you. Good to see this one clammering back onto the shelves of good bottlo’s Australia wide. At just on cool and into a tulip it goes. Cola brown to black in the dark but of good clarity. Well conditioned, fine carbonation streams endlessly to atmosphere below the weight of a silky, creamy tannish pad of foam that daubs a thick lace. Unusual nose - though last I tried it back in the day I didn’t put much thought into aromatics. Salty brine and kelp precedes a hit of mocha and dusty chocolate, topsoil and damp wood and just a touch of cocoa butter. Creamy, soft and yet full in mouthfeel from the oats. Rather mellowing like a warming glass of bitter sweet chocolate ganache laced with a little over 18’s tipple. Seemingly salty like the nose also having an umami quality. The back end is peppery, floral and earthy amongst the chocolate malt overtones. Long in the swallow a mere continuation of the flavours of the palate. It has a subtle complexity to it that if you turn the brain off allows you to just quaff it all afternoon. Unsure whether Nail have changed the recipe or just refined this one but it is still a delicious stout. Well made! ( 33cL, 2012, Freo Doctor, Fremantle)

Tap @ The Royal Albert. Deep black with cream coloured thin head. Chocolate, coffee and nut aromas. Similar flavours through the front palate but dominated by very bitter hops.

Bottle. Black, minimal head, brown foam, medium bitterness, light body, soft carbonation, & abrupt finish.

Got a few bubbles but I think that works to advantage. Mocha flavour on the smell. Almost licorice on foundation but the hops comes through later. Lovely malt. Coffee finish. Pleasantly light on taste of alcohol. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not a bad stout, but not as dense as could be expected. Pleasant aroma with solid head and nicely hopped, but no long lasting effect on the palate.

330ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a moderate beige head, which does not last all that well, nor leave much lacing. Milk chocolate, white coffee and a touch of hazelnut make up the aroma. Mild herbal hops up front give way to a velvety body, with smooth milk chocolate and hazelnut notes. A little latte comes in at the finish, and there is a mild hazelnut aftertaste. This is not the most exciting stout out there, but it is still a pretty good effort.

UPDATED: APR 9, 2014 Bottle, 12C. Dark brown with a modest tan head that doesn’t last. Aroma of mocha, Indian sweetmeats (cardamon burfi) , blackberries. Smooth, but carbonation is a just a little high to be silky. Roasted and chocolate flavours sit amongst treacle and Indian sweet-like malts. Fairly sweet and doesn’t really dry out much, but the whole thing is lightened by quite high and slightly spicy bitterness. Very nice..

Was pleased to find this in Qld, now they decide to come to Vic. Fresher bottle, home glass? - looks fine. Impressive.

Good one - very easy drinking - medium bodied - classic flavour - a bit short on aftertaste (cola-like?) so kinda two dimensional but... I like it.

(Bottle) Black with a tan head. Subtle aroma with hints of offer and malt. Excellent fine and plentiful carbonation. Smooth taste with balancing dark / burnt toffee notes. Very pleasant.

Sweet chocolate, roast almond and sultana aroma. Thick viscous pour. Too much carbonation for me. Watery finish. Overall not a stunning oatmeal stout, lacks depth of flavour.

Dark brown, nice head. Aroma hints at a rich, fudgey balanced brew. Full body, creamy and delicious. Sweet accent, just enough hop. Really nice stout.
