Draft at NCBC. This is my 1,000th rate of a Washington beer. This is one milestone I will admit is satisfying to hit, especially since it hadnít been done before. I am stoked that itís one of Donís beers--I didnít plan where this milestone would land, but Iíve long suspected it would work out this way. Heís created a great place to come try Washington beers, and for people to learn about about well-made beer. Heís also making a ton of good beers himself. And I am stoked that itís a saison. Itís a great style that you didnít see made locally much, even five years ago. Seems like Washington beer is here to stay. This one pours a clear bright gold with a loose white head. There are grass, hay, and floral notes on the nose. Thereís a lively medium body, showing crackers, faint white pepper, hay, wet grass, and floral notes on the mid-palate. Mild finish. One of the great things about drinking this beer was sitting next to someone who wanted to know what saison was, and her husband interrupted to hoot about how good his first sour beer--ever--was (NCBC Dark Passage, just for the record). Beerís not just an underground sensation anymore. And thank god for that.

Lightly spicy, fruity aroma with hints of bubblegum and hay. Delicate, but pleasant. Pours hazy pale yellowish golden orange, thin head. The flavor is also soft but nice. Hay, light spice, light fruity sweetness, and bubblegum. Crisp light earth/pepper finish. Soft but flavorful, light and drinkable. Very nice.
