Blend of a base barleywine and barleywine aged in two different Woodinville Whiskey barrels. One new, and one that previously held Opacity Imperial Stout. Collaboration with The Homebrewer’s Guild of Seattle Proper.

Big vinous dark fruit on the nose with some underlying brown sugar and boozey barrel notes. Wood and vanilla show here and there. Pours auburn, thin off white head and lace. Flavors of dark fruit raisins and figs and shit, bourbon notes, wood, brown sugar, vanilla, and alcohol. Residual sugars show up throughout but it never becomes cloying. Peppery alcohol finish, thick full body. A really nice beer.

On tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver 2013. This one was packed with darker fruits, brown sugar, and a bit of booze. I really like that they used local whiskey barrels for this. It’s heavy, with the standard caramel-drenched fruit notes done well, and I bet that shade of booze will be gone with some age. Good stuff.

Dark amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice Barley wine aroma and flavor. Awesome barrel aging. This is a super big beer.

Draft at ncbc open house. Pours a clear and very dark amber with golden brown edges. Loose sudsy tan rim. Big tangled complex caramel nose. Lots of sweet toffee and caramel, also showing soft apricot and vanilla from the whiskey and oak, but in the background. Creamy thick body, soft carb. Caramel, toast, nuts, and toffee on the mid palate, then some whiskey and oak. Whiskey and oak are definitely not the first things you notice on the nose or the tongue, and you never notice the alcohol. This is really, really, really good--balanced and coherent, showing layers of flavors. Doing everything a beer should do. This is where the good shit is.
