Dark brown in color, thin head. Lingering smoked malt aroma. Malt flavor with smoke lingering throughout the beer. I liked the beer it left me wanting more. This was sublte not too much in the smoke arena. The beer was very solid.

2010-07-01. Black body with a tiny beige head. 3+ Flavour is blessedly lacking in smoke for my sake, disappointing for anyone who wanted it to be there. Sweet yeasty malt, ephemeral hints of smoke. Muted aroma hints at smoke if you look hard, weizen bock like esters briefly. Smooth average to light palate. Meh. On tap at Naked City, Seattle

[3086-20100702] Tap. Smoky raisin roast malt aroma. Dark brown red body with a quick foamy off-white head. Smoky roast malt flavour has a long smooth roasted aftertaste. Medium-full body.

Chestnut brown with a ring of head. Sharp brown malt and nuttiness pinch together in the nostrils with hints of white cheddar. Brown malt, slight lactose flavor with hints of smoked cheddar and some nuttiness and tinny smokiness through the finish. The rauch malt becomes more pronounced in body and flavor as the experience wears on. Ok, but lacks complexity--this one just does not stand out.

Shaker pint draft at Naked City Taphouse in Seattle, Washington. Pour is dark brown with slight ruby notes and a smallish off white head. Aroma is char smoke, though somewhat light with a lot of sweet malt coming through. Taste is sweetish fruit malt with a char roast behind that. Big lingering residual sweet cherry flavor, bordering on cloying. After that subsides get more of the wet camp fire roast. Palate is medium, high carbonation - unique take on a smoked beer, and quite easy to drink. Nice.

Draft at the brewery. Pours an inky black with a loose creamy tan ring of foam around the top. Mild campfire nose, a little sweet and roasty to go with it. Creamy medium body. Bits of anise, campfire, and roast on the mid-palate. Nice thick, satisfying mouthfeel. Flavors could be a little more powerful and forward, this is a fairly short-distance foray into the world of smoky porters. Beautifully made and great name.

Nose of sweet smoke on top of coffee, chocolate, and some roast. Pours dark brown with a thinnish head, soft lace. Smokey sweetness pervades throughout. Chocolate shows up as does some roast. On a scale of 1-10 smoke comes through around a 6-7. Nice mixture of sweet and smokey and porter base. Drinkability is high. Nice

Draft at Naked City. Pours a coffee black with a small beige head. The smoked malt is nicely balanced by a touch of coffee and a hint of fudge. The smoke characteristics are less than a Schlenkerla but more than what I recall from the ASP...Meaty with the hint of campfire, really nice. Solid base porter here that severs as a vessle for the smoke, like it should. A touch nutty, with cocoa, coffee, with the bittering on the end meeting the smokiness. If anything, maybe dial the carbonation down just one notch. Well done Don!
