A solid not-quite-dessert beer. Excellent nose of high percentage cacao chocolate and sour cherries. Flavor follows suit. Not a sweet beer. Burnt wood smokiness, extra dark chocolate and ver earthy sour cherries combine to deliver a very interesting take on a chocolate stout. I enjoyed this one very much. Dark reddish brown. Small wispy light brown head.

Bottle. Poured dark reddish brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted with very good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted chocolate malt, cherry aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted malt cherry flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate. Solid brew that met my expectations.

Bottle shared by b3shine. Pours a thick black with a beige head of foam. The aroma is musty wine and chocolate. The taste is pretty sweet. Thicker mouthfeel, low carbonation.

22oz bottle, thanks to b3shine for sharing. Labeled 8%; 42 IBU. Near-black color. Kind of brown around the edges, slight red. Thin light brown head. Dots and bits of lace. A lot of cocoa nib on the nose. Medium to bigger body. Smooth, lightly soft, lighter carbonation. Light slick finish. In the flavor, cocoa nib, some dark chocolate, hint of coffee, and some dark fruit. Moderate bitter taste, light to moderate sweet. Moderate bitter taste taste. Light to moderate sweet. Kind of tart. Solid stuff. I’m intrigued by it.

Bomber to snifter (shared with DrSilverworm and jstax; thanks Dogbones). Looks good; a translucent dark cherry cola with beige head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of dark malt, roast, and mild cherry. Some mild cocoa too. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Solid, but could be more balanced and viscous.

Pours a rich coffee brown with a thick and rather fine-bubbled tan head. Aroma gets you all Pavlovian with coffee, chocolate, roast malt and - oh yeah, baby - cherry tones, plus snippets of hops and other fruit. Flavor starts with a base of roast malt and quality coffee, and builds on it with sour cherry, semi-sweet chocolate, pear, apple and even hoppy notes. Texture is firm and thick, leaving a nice finish of sour cherry and cocoa. Worth $23 a bomber? Eff yes!

5 ounce pour at brewery pours a jet black color with a reddish hue a bit thin and high and carbonation. Very subtle cherry flavoring and aroma

From the 22 ounce bottle shared by the brewers. Big cherry notes followed by chocolate. Dark body. Not thick or heavy. Tasty.

Appearance: Slips oughta the growler a near black body with an initially tall, albeit collapsing, dark tan head.

Smell: A little toast, a bit more roast, some coffee and the inferred notes smelling of chocolate and cherries.

Taste: A roasty start with coffee-toned dark malts with an additional bitterish chocolate edge. Moderately fruity dark cherry taste with a modest tartness. Light hops, lightly bitter. A curtain of roastiness pulls back, giving gentler flavors of cola and semi-sweet chocolate to enter. Malty, smooth, and yet still fruity finish.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.

Overall: A good, tasty beer. It’s a shame my only Nantahala experiences are years apart when I pass through North Carolina.

Dark brown pour with ruby hints and a foamy tan head and lace. Aroma of chocolate, light cherries, and a hinto coffee. A tart fruitiness that mellows as it lingers. Medium full bodied but a tad fizzy. a pretty nice beer.
