Nantahala Brewing Company’s inaugural beer is made with pale malt and a generous amount of crystal malts. In addition to the copious amounts of pellet hops used in the kettle, we run is through our uniquely designed “hop back” which mingles fresh hop flowers with the wort on the way to the fermenter. This process, along with dry hopping, produces a piney, grapefruit and grassy aroma and helps contribute to a crisp, dry finish.

Location: 22 oz bottle from Bruisin’ Ales, 1/7/15

Aroma: This beer has an aroma of citrus and floral hops, with some bready notes as well
Appearance: Pours a murky orange color with a frothy beige head and a heavy, coating lace
Flavor: The taste is similar component-wise, lightly sweet, and medium bitter
Palate: Has a light-medium body, a solid mouthfeel, soft carbonation, and a dry finish
Overall Impression: This is a decent IPA, it is not a particularly impressive one, nor is it a poor example. Just really defines the word decent for me. Also, for some reason, I now have the song "New Day Sunshine" stuck in my head, so there’s that.

22 oz bomber pours light copper with moderate head. A bit overcarbed as a little volcano formed from the bottle, excellent citrus aromas. Vert nice drinking ipa from a great brewery

Nicely balanced, but definitely hop-forward IPA. Great head with a smooth body.

Serving: Bottle. It pours a slightly hazy light amber with a lasting white head. The nose has plenty of bright grapefruit and pine notes from the hops. The flavor continues the hop journey with just a little biscuity malt backbone. Long, bitter finish. A very solid IPA.

From old notes, tasted with Curtis and some friends in Nashville, probably some time near the summer of 2012, from bottle. Pours clear orange with an average white head that leaves an average collar of lace. The nose is super dank green citrus hops, some earthy hops, with just enough malt to act as a backbone. The flavor has just a touch of malty sweetness up front, moving to the dank, bitter, earthy, and light citrus hops. The body is medium with average carbonation and a long bitter dank hops finish.

On tap at Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Across America southeast edition. Pours a slightly hazy golden brown with fluffy off-white head. Aroma and taste are resinous hops, bright citrus and stone fruits, a bit catty but not bad, barely there malt bill.

22 oz. bottle from Appalachian Vintner, Asheville, NC (6% ABV according to the side of the bottle). Beautiful deep orange pour with a frothy off-white head. Aroma of tangerine, wet grass, and toffee malts. While the hop bitterness seemed as if it would be balanced and somewhat muted by the malt bill I was quite surprised to find this to be plenty hoppy. Upfront pine and grapefruit rind bitterness is met with caramel and toffee malt sweetness on the finish. The result is a well made, initially hoppy, yet overall balanced IPA. Impressive!
