COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nantahala Brewing Company’s inaugural beer is made with pale malt and a generous amount of crystal malts. In addition to the copious amounts of pellet hops used in the kettle, we run is through our uniquely designed “hop back” which mingles fresh hop flowers with the wort on the way to the fermenter. This process, along with dry hopping, produces a piney, grapefruit and grassy aroma and helps contribute to a crisp, dry finish.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2014 Very clean and easy IPA. Reminds me a bit of Founders Centennial - fruity notes without overloading the mouthfeel with too much tropical weirdness. Super crisp finish from this well-balanced dry-hopped easy rider!

Bottle from JCB. Hard to believe a week ago I had never even heard of this tasty little treat. This pours a golden color with a smidgen of amber in there. A full head develops on top before fleeting off to leave a thin blanket. Good lacing throughout. Floral and tropical fruity hops invade the aroma. That’s followed by biscuits, grass, and some pine. Nice. The taste definitely favors the tropical fruits: passionfruit, grapefruit, and papaya noted. Crisp and bitter on the back end with slick underlying malt for support and light sweetness. An oily herbal character helps this glide along nicely. Yum. This is about as sessionable an IPA as you can get without sacrificing flavor. This is why I love getting good, fresh locals. Thanks JCB.

A favorite IPA in WNC. If I see it I order it. Crisp, great hops, almost like a Stone.

Comes out of the tap a hazy honey golden, not much head but that must be from the pour. Aroma is quite hoppy with a firm fruity undertone. Hoppy flavor is scarcely bitter and has a nice fruity underpinning that is equal parts citrus and pomme. Fruity sweetness and hoppy bitterness balance almost perfectly. Firm texture has plenty of fizz and leaves behind a tingly, hoppy, fruity finish. Definitely a worthy IPA!

On tap at the brewery. Nice lacing and thin head atop an orange slightly hazy beer. A wallop of resin and citrus hops up front and through the middle. It’s all lemon and orange in the finish with a hint of caramel malt to balance against the resin. It has long been a fav at festivals for me.

A good session-able IPA. Tame hop characteristics with citrus notes. Well bodied and balanced.

Draft in a flight at the brewery. Nice bit of hoppiness to the taste of this one, though it’s balanced out well with the malts.

On tap at the Hickory Hops Brewfest 2012, this pours a golden orange into the glass, with a retentive head that leaves webbed lacing. The nose is fruity and floral. A very citric flavor palate ensues, with grapefruit and orange dominating. A nice bitter finish closes the pull. The mouthfeel is a little thinner than I expected, with the malt back not quite matching the cutting citrus and bitters. Soft carbonation helps to avoid a seltzer feel. Overall, very decent IPA.

Very easy drinking IPA. Sweet and bitter, halfway between earthy hops and citrus hops. Very clean and thick Mouthfeel but still light and easy
