Pours black as night without any sort of head to speak of. Nice mix of fruit and smoke on the nose that turns into more of a coffee taste when it hits the tongue. Coats the mouth and sticks around for awhile.

pours a slighty thin looking brown with a nice brown head that fades quick but leaves good lacing. nose is pleasent with lots of dark chocolate and roasty bitterness coming through, a hop waft comes through as well. flavor is roasy, toasy malts with some licorice and cocoa nibs, and a some good hop bitterness with a tiny hint of alcohol in back. mouthfeel is nice and creamy in front with some carb in back. def their best offering.

2.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
Pours an opaque black with barely a hint of a head. A very thin cap is apparent on top of the beer but carbonation is nearly nil.
Smell is kind of odd. Very metallic with some light hints of coffee and dark fruit.
The flavor has dark fruit up front but it is quickly overwhelmed by a strong hop bitterness which seems out of place. Some coffee and dark chocolate are present but dark fruit is the predominant flavor. I little bit of flowery hop bitterness is there but is very faint. Mouthfeel is a little thin with the lack of carbonation.
Overall, Not a great effort from Napa Smith. The bitterness seems out of place and the flavor a bit one dimensional. Glad I got to try it but will not seek out again.

Bottle from the Nugget in Vacaville, CA. Poured a dark brown color with a tan head. Caramel was the most noticable flavor with maybe a hint of chocolate. Very impressed with my first exposure to the Napa Smith Brewery. Would buy again.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Good bitterness for the style. Solid malt. Everything is going strong until about halfway through the flavor you get hit with a gnarly metal taste, really gnarly, almost rust. That fades out quickly and ends well, but it ruins the experience. Has potential, and its a new brewery so hopefully good things are to come.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aromas of hops, wheat, and chocolate. Dark brownish black in color. Flavors of chocolate, mint, barley and wheats. Finish brings mint chocolate and some oats. Overall, this is a decent porter with mint, cocoa, and coffee overtones. Fairly basic flavors. I’d give this a C+ rating.
