22 oz. bottle, pours a hazy dark orange with a medium off-white head. Aroma brings out resinous hops, caramel malts, and residual sugars. Flavour brings out resinous hops, caramel, and residual sugars - only a slight wine barrel quality to this. The 144 IBUs isn’t that revealing, as the barrels take away some of the barrels. Quite well-balanced, with the wine barrel aging taking away any residual sweetness, but also taking away much of the bitterness. Solid stuff.

Big aroma of floral hops. Rich amber appearance with thin head and lacing. Taste is big, rich, boozy, super hoppy. Like a more full bodied double trouble.

Pours dark orange with a 2 to 3 finger of a white head. The aroma is moderate to strong hops, pine, herbal, citrus, mango and caramel, which for me dominates the beer once it starts warming up. The taste is bitter up front, fresh hops, tropical fruits and caramel. On the back I get more tropical fruit, herbal and florar hops and alcohol. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth. Overall, is a good beer, not the best IIPA I have had but still, is a good beer.

Can smell the fresh hops right away. Sat arts with some sweetness and then the complexity of the different hops hits you. Well balanced, and love the hint of oak from the wine barrels. Exactly what a northwest imperial ipa should be.

On tap at One Eyed Betty. Some hop aroma. Orange bodied and lacy. Big IBU but not so greatly drinkable.

Poured into a Napa Smith pint glass at the Napa Smith Brewery. From notes, July 29, 2012. Thanks Karl! A: Extremely hop forward with lots of citrus and grapefruit and hints of lime. A little bit of oak on the nose too. A: Pours a clear, light brown/amber with a quarter finger head that leaves decent lacing. T: You would think at 144 IBU’s this would just be a straight hop bomb, but its very well balanced. Starts with pungent, sweaty hop flavors up front, followed by caramel and sweet, bready malt in the middle that fades to clove and musty citrus in the finish. P: Creamy and medium bodied with good carbonation. O: Definitely improves as it warms and the complexities from the barrel aging become more apparent. My one complaint is it is a little sweet and syrupy but it doesn’t become cloying. One of Napa Smith’s better beers.

Bomber from Safeway in San Jose, CA. Grassy, catty, earthy hop aromas flow out of this when poured. Medium orange/amber color with a foamy light tan head. Those hops follow right into the taste along with some pine and grapefruit notes. That mix of hop flavors and bitterness is excellent, but what really becomes noticeable is the sturdy caramel malt body and flavor that balances out this massive attack. It’s almost like a British IPA that’s been hopped like an American DIPA. The bitterness somehow isn’t tongue numbing like some DIPAs, but it does linger around everywhere else. There’s a nice alcohol warmth and bite mid-sip that may be rinsing off what could be sticky bitterness and it provides yet another nice balance point. Finishes earthy and bitter with a light floral touch. Definitely a hopheads beer and a delicious DIPA.

Bottle at Ölrepubliken. Very clody dark amber. Rather weak head. Very nice hopiness with citrus, pomerans, and everything. Good good. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
