4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Typical amber colored DIPA body with a two finger thick head and mild residual carbonation. The smell was very mild for a DIPA, with the hops coming across as piney, floral, herbal, and earthy. The taste was quite bitter, with the same piney-earthy-herbal hop profile up front, and some spice in the finish. The malt was evident as a simple and light sugary taste. The overall flavor profile reminded me lot of a strong tea with some sweetness. The beer drank much more easy than the 9.2% ABV it contained, and there wasnít any warming or burn at all. This beer did not start very promising, but delivered the hops in the end.

Can smell the fresh hops right away. Sat arts with some sweetness and then the complexity of the different hops hits you. Well balanced, and love the hint of oak from the wine barrels. Exactly what a northwest imperial ipa should be.

Poured into a Napa Smith pint glass at the Napa Smith Brewery. From notes, July 29, 2012. Thanks Karl!
A: Extremely hop forward with lots of citrus and grapefruit and hints of lime. A little bit of oak on the nose too.
A: Pours a clear, light brown/amber with a quarter finger head that leaves decent lacing.
T: You would think at 144 IBUís this would just be a straight hop bomb, but its very well balanced. Starts with pungent, sweaty hop flavors up front, followed by caramel and sweet, bready malt in the middle that fades to clove and musty citrus in the finish.
P: Creamy and medium bodied with good carbonation.
O: Definitely improves as it warms and the complexities from the barrel aging become more apparent. My one complaint is it is a little sweet and syrupy but it doesnít become cloying. One of Napa Smithís better beers.

Bomber from Safeway in San Jose, CA. Grassy, catty, earthy hop aromas flow out of this when poured. Medium orange/amber color with a foamy light tan head. Those hops follow right into the taste along with some pine and grapefruit notes. That mix of hop flavors and bitterness is excellent, but what really becomes noticeable is the sturdy caramel malt body and flavor that balances out this massive attack. Itís almost like a British IPA thatís been hopped like an American DIPA. The bitterness somehow isnít tongue numbing like some DIPAs, but it does linger around everywhere else. Thereís a nice alcohol warmth and bite mid-sip that may be rinsing off what could be sticky bitterness and it provides yet another nice balance point. Finishes earthy and bitter with a light floral touch. Definitely a hopheads beer and a delicious DIPA.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Clear with very light haze. Amber with red, copper or rusty hue. pours with a good head that dissipates quickly. Hop dominated aromas. Resin, and pine dominate. Tropical and slightly floral. Malt aromas are dominated but present. Almost a volatile or film yeast lift. Off dry. Not sour. Far beyond acceptable bitterness. No balance. Dense long palate but completely unbalanced. Tropical flavors.
Totally crazy West Coast Imperial IPA. Yes you have incredibly high IBUís but itís unpleasant. Equally as bitter as your mother in law.
No balance or style.

Pours a nice warm orange-amber with lots of lacing. Smells very very hoppy, resinous, some grassiness. Taste is deeply bitter, piney, small amount of floral - wish it had more going on than just sucker-punch hoppiness as it tastes somewhat unbalanced. Sort of like a less malty, less floral Rogue Oregasmic with the hop dialed up to eleven.

Bottle, slightly hazy golden amber color with a very nice fragrance, though quite hoppy it has some distinctive malt notes early on. Finishes slightly sweet but not too much.

Very hop aroma. The taste is too much hops that make it dry. Decent long finish. Follow me @ Kung av Ųl @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Pours a hazy deep orange amber with a medium bubbly off white head. Aroma of caramel, nuts, cardboard, citrusy and floral notes. Flavor of caramel, nuts, some leathery notes. Also getting the citrusy hop notes. Barleywine like.
