It poured a hazy reddish-amber huse with little head. For a red there was certainly a potent hoppy aroma with a weaker bread and biscuit balance. The body wasn’t bad as it came in at about medium. The taste began on the sweet side but the bitter hops took over with avengeance, which struck me more to be akin to a strong ale rather than a red.

12oz bottle. Red amber color, tan head. Resembles the Napa Smith Amber. Smells alike as well. Toasted bread, citrus hops, and a bit of Red Delicious apple skin. Whoa, very strong. Gave me goosebumps! Tastes nothing like the NS Amber Ale. I snatched the bottle to look for the ABV... 7.2%! This is not the sessionable Amber Ale as expected. This is very fusel. Not what I was expecting. This beer turned out to be more like a Red Malt Liquor or a Strong Helles Bock. I’ll stick with the more sessionable Amber for sure. 6,4,4,4,12

12 ounce bottle - $2.09 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia. Appearance: Pours an amber-hued body with a smallish, short-lived, off-white head. Smell: Modestly toasted biscuits and grainy bread with sweetish toffee and caramel and a lesser hint of marzipan. Orange-scented hops just ahead of the other fruity esters. Lightly herbal, floral notes noted as well. Taste: Bready, biscuity maltiness (more so the biscuits) dressed with a bit of almond sugar and a nutty, toasty caramel sweetness. Slight fruity accents of dried apricots and non-dried cherries. Orangey, herbaceous hops with a moderate amount of bitterness. Vague distant mustiness, was the wayward dog last spotted in the vicinity of the brew kettle. Some citric acidity approaching and on the citrusy, drying finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Overall: So far the Napa Smith lineup is just falling a bit flat with me. No reward posters will be put up around town for this lost dog.

Pours a hazy mahogany with a thin tan head. Smells of fruit, caramel, rosey, some citrus. Tastes of caramel, molasses, some lemon with a resiny splash on the finish.

im not a hophead on any level, so this style of amber does nothing for me, but im biased obviously. aroma is ok, woodsy and piney with elements of caramel apples. flavor is somewhat buttery and grainy with a sprinkling of butterscotch. but the finish is too hop forward for me. others will like this just fine.

22oz bottle 5/12/11 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-Pours a medium ruby red with a one finger loose tan head. Aroma of hops, citrus, and caramel. Taste of hops, citrus, caramel, pine, and malt. This medium bodied brew is not bad but definitely not a big hoppy flavor but still decent.

Draft… Clear amber ale with a small, fizzy, taupe head. The aroma is an odd intermingling of caramel, red apple, citrusy hops and is that bubblegum? Light to medium-bodied with stale carbonation. The flavor is a lifeless mélange of caramel, sugar cookie and muted pine and citrus bitterness. Short, crisp, mostly clean finish.

[Draft @ Vino Bello hotel bar] Red brown color with a small off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, caramel, and floral hops. Taste of pine, citrus, caramel, some nuts, with light hoppy bitterness.

The aroma is not inviting. It is slightly tart/sour with fruit, dust, malt, and metallic hops. The appearance is amber with a foamy head. The taste is like the aroma without anything redeeming. The palate is thin. Overall a real dog.

12 oz. bottle from Plaza Liquors - Pours a hazy deep copper color with a one finger thick off white head. Faint lacing. Aroma and flavor is toasted malt. Not much in the way of hops. Guess I should have drank this sooner. Medium body. A decent beer.
