2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Nose of caramel, soup bullion, and red goop. Head is creamy off white and dies before the pour is finished. Slightly cloudy muted red. Mouth feel is very watery. Flavor is barely detectable until the swallow. Then a slap of bitter hops hits you. Higher alcohol content is not noticeable. What the purpose of red beers are I know not. This screams mediocrity. 2.5 out of 5.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the brewpub. It pours a clear amber body and a small off-white head. Sweetish malty caramel aroma with some faint citrusy hops. Medium body with very soft carbonation. Caramel and citrus peel in the flavor, some bitterness. Sweet finish. Decent, but a tad uninteresting, one in the crowd. 130807

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rich. Malty. Not too hoppy. The only quibble that I have is that it would be more balanced if it were lower in alcohol. As it is it is a bit too cloying. Make it a 6% and it would be perfect. Look at the label closely; there is a happy ending.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
From notes still on my phone from the 2011 MWBF. I’d forgotten I’d ever had this. Another red beer with a dog name on it, I wonder where that started. Pours orange color, kind of hazy from the bottle. A little foam. A nice malty smell with more supporting hops, perhaps orange and mango flavor. Very spritzy texture. Taste still has tropical juice instead of the regular citrus hop. Now there’s a bit of frizzy orange juice after all. Pretty amazing.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a bottle, a beautiful clear amber color, with a big fluffy off white head. The look of this red ale is nice. The aroma is malty, maybe some fruits. Can't tell. Almost has a funk smell to it. Taste is hoppy. I would try this again on tap.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bright amber colour with a plentiful, coarsely fluffy cream coloured head. I do like the colour of a red ale. The aroma is of lush fruity malts. It really smells of peach tart and some grassy hoppiness. It’s a simple description but I want to emphasise that the aroma is beautiful. It has a prickly carbonation and then out comes a flow of lush darker citrus and caramelised orchard fruits given by the malts. There is also a zingy zesty citrus coming from hops that I find rather endearing. The bitterness is fairly subtle. I came into this beer thinking that the aroma hops would be accompanied by a massive rush of bittering but it had a certain restraint about it that I didn’t expect. This is the sort of ale I would quite like to brew myself with a few changes to the hop varieties and abv. However, this incarnation is lovely.
