COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our Pale Ale uses the best European and American hops and a blend of "plump" two-row barley. As a result our beer has fragrant aromas with a hint of caramel malt.

22 ounce bottle purchased at the Co-Op in Davis. Aroma is crisp, grassy, with some biscuit notes. A little herbal with a touch of lemon. Nice aroma. Transparent golden body with a small white head. Decent lacing. Starts a little astringent, before it becomes grainy, biscuity, and pretty grassy. Sweet, and smooth maltiness in the middle, with a pretty crisp, lightly herbal bitter hop finish. Pretty good for the style.

12 oz. Foggy golden amber color with a disc of creamy foam and a few yeast floaties. Nose is tart apple, pear and metallic caramel. Tastes of tart apple, lemon and cardboard. Oddly, the long finish has a pleasant mix of caramel, toasted nut and dry grass, and is the best part of the beer. Light-medium body has smooth carbonation and a decent balance.

"after my first try with Napa Smith (wheat) I was expecting the pale to be as good or better, as I usually like pales better than wheat. That was not the case though. While the wheat was well above average for the style, the pale was just the opposite. Nothing about it was unpleasant, but it was more what I’d expect from a macro beer co. dabbling in micros. It poured the expected color, but even though it had good carbonation, the head was miniscule. The aroma was a pleasant mix of caramel malt and light hops, but it was pretty weak, as was the flavor. Well balanced, but on the weak side, and I prefer more hops in my APAs. Nice crisp, slightly dry finish. Medium bodied pale...almost average, but not quite. Now I don’t know what to expect from the amber..."

Bottle. One of the better Pale Ales out there. Color is a deep golden with a hugh fluffy head. Aroma is grains, with a whiff of almost a slight floral aroma. Taste is really nicely balanced with a slightly sweet up front and a balanced finish.

2011 backlog. 12oz bottle. Pours hazy medium gold with a one finger snow white head. The nose is biscuits, light fruit and grainy malts. The taste is earthy hops, grain, honey and slight citrus in the backend. Medium bodied. Meh, the IPA was a lot better. 2.8

Pours clear golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, grain, floral and grass. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a average light malty and light bitter finish. Body is light to medium, texture is thin to oily, carbonation is soft.

On tap at the brewpub. A pale golden beer, clear, topped by a small, dense, off-white head. Too weak aroma, some grassy and fruity hints, pine too, but mostly it’s on the malty side. The flavor has the same problem. It’s not bad in and way, just plain boring. Medium to thin on the palate. Short, fruity finish. Sure drinkable but way too boring. 130807

Pours a clear golden wheat color. No head, but that’s the way the waitress poured it. Very grainy and butterscotch aroma. Very nice mouthfeel--slick and wet. Butterscotch flavor that is balanced with a barely noticeable hop. In fact, without making a special effort to look for the hop, you’ll miss it. A little under-hopped for an APA. IBUs might be at the APA level, but the aggressive grain bill disallows the hops to express themselves.
