2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Pawola22 (3094) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 17, 2013
On tap at The George and Dragon in Barcelona. Pours a hazed amber colored body with an inch thick, dense, foamy and frothy, beige head that dissipates slowly and leaves a soapy lacing. Aroma is cheesy and oxidized with some caramels, piney citruses, and toast. Flavor is better, but a bit harsh. Some caramels, toasty toffee, grapefruit pine resins, and earth. Finishes dry and fairly harshly bitter before leaving a lengthy aftertaste. Medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a pretty harsh amber. Not terrible, but I wasn’t a big fan of this one.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a medium white head leaving nice lacing. Aroma is some caramel malts, fruity hoppiness, grapefruit and a bit of citrus. Taste is a bit of caramel malts, but mainly bitterness which is a bit astringent. Low to medium carbo, decent body.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 caesar (3943) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - APR 27, 2013
Bottled. Clear amber color, short off-white head. Aroma of caramelly and toasted malts, soft fruity hop, bit grapefruit, citrus. Quite bitter taste, some roasty caramel, with a bit astringent edge to the bitterness. The beer is more malty of toast, caramel and a touch of roasted malt and less hop forward than (india) pale ales, though still quite hoppy. Could have a bit more balance and complexity. On one hand, it’s quite strong in aroma and bitter in taste, so good job done in getting a lot of flavor out of the ingredients. On the other hand, the malty and hoppy flavors try to overpower each other instead of creating a perfect match for one another.

De color marrón rojizo. Es demasiado amarga para mí. No pude distinguir mucho del sabor, quizá algo de fruta. No creo que me la vuelva a pedir.

Draught at the Bar Animal, Madrid, Spain.
Cloudy amber colour with a small white head.
Grainy malty aroma with some hops and fruitiness.
Rather hoppy bitter but also rather sweet caramel malty. Meh.... It's not my favourite. Rather balanced though.
