Aroma is literally an explosion of hops, fruity, herbal and very resinous. In mouth the hops explosion becomes a green halo bomb with notes of roasted malts and licorice in the background.

MALTS: Maris Otter, Crystal 150, Carafa III.
HOPS: Columbus, Amarillo, Cascade, Pacific Gem, Chinook, Nelson Sauvin.

330ml bottle at home in Richmond as ’Naparbier Back In Black’, 8.5%, BB Dec 2016. In all honesty, if I’d known this was 8.5% I probably wouldn’t have opened it tonight, as I’m already boosted. Pours opaque black with a huge dense foamy brown head, leaving full lacing. Aroma is pine-forward, musty, minty, socks, menthol. Body is very light, sprizy, quite foamy. Taste is menthol, coffee, earthy, mint flavoured Aero bar, mint leaf. An intriguing mix of airy but intense ashy roast and mint. A lot of fun, and doesn’t show the relatively high ABV.

Carbonatacion bastante alta. Cuerpo medio-alto.

Medium aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, pine, roasted malts and hops.

Turbid/opaque ruby/dark brown beer with slight yeast and with a medium/large beige/brown head.

Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate and pine; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and hops.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. Damn that carbonation at the start, it is even more fizzy than soda; not my cup of tea. Thankfully this settles down a bit after a while. The flavour is great and more than making up for this however.

August 3, 2016. Bottle, best before December 2016.
Dark brown, almost black with a large dense tan head. Aroma is hoppy, fruity and roasted with orange, peach, pine, resin, licorice and hints of cocoa. Taste is light to medium sweet, light fruity, light roasted bitterness. Finish is light sweet fruity and malty with hints of toffee, peach and sweet and light salty licorice, lingering slightly dry grassy, piney and roasted bitterness along with some resinous notes. Medium bodied, average carbonation.
Quite good, lacks some punch in the aroma.

Bottle, batch 16044 (from Koht). Pours dark brown with light brownish head. The head stays for some time. Aroma is roast, citrus, grapefruit, malt. Flavor is citric and bitter, roast, grapefruit, lemon, malt. Covers alcohol rather well, drinkability is good. Overall: good.

Sredniak.

Aroma of tropical fruit, cirtus, pine, resin. Black with an excessive foam which is barely manageable. Bitter, medium body, lively carbonation, astringent finish. In a word: discordant.

Bottle from Ales by Mail, drunk at home. Black with a petite and tight cream-coloured head. Salt liquorice, chocolate-covered cherries, plums, pine needles. Bittersweet taste with a more pronounced bitter finish. More pine and liquorice in the aftertaste. Thin to.medium body, soft carbonation. Excellent, excellent, excellent, at a wonderfully boozy ABV.
