Keg at Uppsala Ölfestival. Black, mid sized head. Citrus and licorice up front. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Heavily roasty with licorice and coffee, some tar. Sugar and resin comes though in a quite bitter finish.

Pours a jet black color with brown head. Tropical fruits, coffee, pine, chocolate, caramel and herbs in both aroma and flavour. Kicking bitterness on the aftertaste, with a great coffee presence. Flabbergasting!

Pours a dark black with a lasting tan head. Aroma completely unexpected, the colour suggested dark coffee or chocolate but the aroma is completely of tropical fruit. Smooth beer for it’s alcohol content, you get a hit of mango and pineapple quickly followed by a liquorice background which i didn’t feel complemented the tropical fruit much but wasn’t unleasant. Something quite different, a pleasant surprise for all senses.

Jet black color with rich beaige head. Aroma is a hop explosion, full of pine, citrus, tropical fruits and floral hints, with a good coffee and roasted malts background. Medium body. Taste follows the aroma, very hoppy, fruity, piney, renisy and floral, with coffee beans, dark chocolate and liquorice as well, with a marked bitter aftertaste. CDA that moves toward the IPA area, maybe a bit unbalanced, but extremely tasty.

In short: A crisp citrusy Black IPA of superior quality.
How: Tap at Drunk Monk, Mataró, Spain. (later tap at Never Stop, San Sebastian Spain, then some bottles)
The look: Black body topped by a persistent small beige head leaving a lot of sticky lacings on the glass.
In long: Nose is bright citrusy hops with mild roasty-tobacco notes, almost smells like a regular IPA. In mouth the beer has a medium body and appropriate medium carbonation, an ok standard mouthfeel. Taste starts with some blackened malts, a little sip of black coffee, a little black stuff sweetness (molasses, black liquorice). This solid malt backbone is met with force by a solid hopping of fresh citrusy hops., After-taste of roast and grapefruits. Nothing original here but the flavors are bright, the beer is very crisp, this is a superior Black IPA. For those about to brew Back in Black, I salute you.

Shared bottle at Cardinal, Stavanger. Pours almost clear dark ruby with a tiny white head. Lovely light roasted caramel aroma. Taste is the same, light roasted malts, with a firm light salty liquorice body, more than pleasant, high carbonation level, dryy lingering finish, lovely beer.
