Sample at Haand Festival 2014. Black body with a low beige head. Aroma of dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malt, alcohol. Taste of peppers, light spicy without overdoing it, salt licorice, prunes, roasted malt. Medium bitterness with a sweet and spicy finish. A very interesting take in my opinion.

A big boozy mess of stout flavors and spices, this beer was ordered in a four ounce pour because I could not resist the description. Thankfully it at least counts a new country tick because otherwise this beer is a total disaster. There aren’t any signs of infection but all problems stem from the addition of habanero. I am not a huge fan of extremely spicy beers in general much less a style that does not work well with the heat.

Aroma / Appearance - The rich black inky base and beige head are typical of an imperial stout. Smoky chocolate, coffee, and fruits are present. Unfortunately they soon get overpowered by a strong spicy aspect that is like pure habanero extract poured into the secondary tank.

Flavor / Palate - Spices slam the palate immediately. The burning sensation makes it hard to enjoy the coffee, chocolate, and malty tones that would otherwise make this a pleasing and well made imperial stout. Take away the peppers and it would be another face in the crowd. Instead it is like that guy in Times Square wearing a tacky bright orange plaid shirt - hard to forget but you wish you could.

Pours pitch black color with a small beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, licorice, wood and cocoa. Flavor tar, cocoa, mild chili, chocolate, roasted malts and some wood. Smootish palate, some rough malty notes on the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aromes de fruita caramelitzada, pastis de poma, alcohol i café, color negre amb tocs vermellosos, escuma densa i fosca. Sabor persistent de café i alcohol, cacao, regalessia... No trobo el chile per enlloc.. :(

Draft at Mikkeller Bar San Fransisco. Pours dark brown to black with reddish highlights and a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malts, dark berry like fruit character, coffee, mild spices, some peppery heat, some alcohol, warming, the body was a bit thin, interesting and I’m glad to have had a shot at this, could really benefit from a bigger body and thicker mouthfeel.

On tap at Haand Festival -14. It’s an almost clear one, dark brown in color and with a small, tan head on top. The aroma has cocoa, chili hints, roasted malts and some coffee hints. There’s lots of chili warmth in the mouth, with cocoa, coffee and chili fruit. Warming, chili warming, full-bodied and with a soft carbonation. Lasting chili and roasted malts finish. A bit roasted in the finish this one, else it’s a really fine chili beer. 140523

Spuyten Duyvil, Brooklyn tap: Pours black with a dark brown head. Aroma is roast, minerals, dirt, some dark chocolate. Taste is very bitter and mineral-full. I can’t say that I really identified pumpkins or habaneros in this, so much as I identified plenty of bitterness. Perhaps the pumpkin gave the beer some of the bitterness? In any case, I didn’t really like this all that much. Interesting idea though.

Cunningham (4506) - Halden, NORWAY - JUN 5, 2014
Appearance: Black color with a fine beige head. Ok lacing.
Aroma: Roasted malt, dark malt and CHILLI.
Palate: Full body. Tad sweet and a moderate bitterness. Soft carbonation.
Taste: Chocolate, licorice, mild fruity and CHILLI.
Overall impression: My goodness the chilli was strong in this one.
Personal stats: On tap @ Haand 14 in Drammen, Norway. Part of a trade including a t-shirt and 100 norwegian kroner.

Hurray! Exiting experience. Roasted malts and brown sugar, chocolate and fruits and then on top of it all, chili. This is what it is all about, finding new amazing ways to put flavors together. At Haandbryggeriet Řlfestival, Drammen.

Sample at Haand 2014
Black, creamy tanned head. Smell of chili, pumpkin and roasted malts. Medium sweet, liquorice and chili, roast and coffee, pumpkin blends in quite well. Moderate bitter finish. IS with habanero and pumpkin is a good idea
