Aroma is dark malts, coffee and a hint of spices/heat. The flavor is dark malts, coffee, chocolate, mild/medium sweetness and a mix of acidity and moderate heat in the finish.

Bottle. Pours thick pitch black with very tiny brown head. Aroma is really dense dark, chocolate, coffee, slight sirup and aome smoke. Taste is medium sweet and with good sharp habanero chile heat. Dried fruits, liquorrice. 90% dark chocolate with chili. Mefi body and dry roasty finish. Some habanero smoke.

Bottle. Pitch black with small brown head. Aroma has tons of roast and harsh english liquorice, spices and the warmth of a strong chili. Taste is roasted and maltet and somewhat overpowering, but not as a result of chili; lots of liquorice. It has a nice bite in the back of the mouth, which could be confused for a smoky finish. Also a note of very dark chocolate. Very interesting, but no sign of pumpkin, sadly.

Tap sample. Poured clear black color with an small tan head that lasted and produced fair lacing. Moderate to heavy complex toasted malt, hot spice and herb aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth dry texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted spice sweet & hot flavor with a medium to heavy dark sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a complex dark beer.

On tap at Dutch’s. Dang, this stuff is pretty impressive, beginning with the appearance. Pours a pitch black color, with a nice thin brown head, leaving good, thicker lace. Head soon fades to a thinner amount, though, leaving minimal lace. Bigger body. Good chewy thicker texture to it, more slick finish. Lighter carbonation. Great big roast malt, some coffee, little dark fruit, hints of dark chocolate. Nice amount of habanero on the back end, that seems to linger for the perfect length of the time. Good for sipping, does not impede drinkability. 11.6% alcohol is very well-hidden beneath the big flavor and big body. I’m only taking small sips at a time of this (maybe because of the habanero), but in those small sips there is no heat, burn or bite. Just a nice kick from the habanero. Bigger bitterness it seems, more bitter than sweet. Moderate sweet taste still, though, and the spicy kick at the end. Overall, pumpkin is very subtle, here, maybe even not noticeable at all. It seems to lend a bit of creaminess, but it’s none of the classic pumpkin flavor you’d expect, not anywhere near as obvious as other pumpkin stouts/porters I’ve tried. Very cool big roasty habanero imperial stout, though. Damn, this is sneaking up on me... Great one to sip on slowly!

Sample at Haand Festival 2014. Black body with a low beige head. Aroma of dark fruit, chocolate, roasted malt, alcohol. Taste of peppers, light spicy without overdoing it, salt licorice, prunes, roasted malt. Medium bitterness with a sweet and spicy finish. A very interesting take in my opinion.

A big boozy mess of stout flavors and spices, this beer was ordered in a four ounce pour because I could not resist the description. Thankfully it at least counts a new country tick because otherwise this beer is a total disaster. There aren’t any signs of infection but all problems stem from the addition of habanero. I am not a huge fan of extremely spicy beers in general much less a style that does not work well with the heat.

Aroma / Appearance - The rich black inky base and beige head are typical of an imperial stout. Smoky chocolate, coffee, and fruits are present. Unfortunately they soon get overpowered by a strong spicy aspect that is like pure habanero extract poured into the secondary tank.

Flavor / Palate - Spices slam the palate immediately. The burning sensation makes it hard to enjoy the coffee, chocolate, and malty tones that would otherwise make this a pleasing and well made imperial stout. Take away the peppers and it would be another face in the crowd. Instead it is like that guy in Times Square wearing a tacky bright orange plaid shirt - hard to forget but you wish you could.
