3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
(Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm, 14 Feb) Dark brown, nearly black, with a thick off-white head. Nose is smoky, tarry and a bit sweet. Reminiscent of burning juniper or spruce twigs. Full bodied with a taste of tar, smoke and leather. Very long finish, the tar and smoke stays with you for some time. Lots of cereal, like chewing on malt from an Islay malt whiskey distillery. This is a love or hate beer and another remarkable brew from this amazing little brewery that keeps coming with nice surprises.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Dark ruby brown small light yellow head. Heavy smoked aroma, loads of tar, himts of junper and ham in aroma. Smokey, tarry and rather hammy flavour with salty and woody undertones. Full body. Long tarry finish of ham and juniper. I prefer the regular version, though! Stiil, a great beer.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2007 Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm. Dark ruby, very small head. Strong Gotlandsdricke-like juniper smokey aroma. Sweetish with notes of honey Near full bodied with clean mouthfeel. Like a cleaner, carbonated more well organized Gotlandsdricke. Many seem to prefer this winter version to their regular Rököl, but I find it a bit heavy on the honey.

Draught at Akkurat, Stockholm.
The second beer already this year made from Mackmyra smoked malt, this one’s top fermented I believe.
Mahogany colour, creamy head, somewhat hazy. Strong peaty whiskey-like smokey nose. Full bodied with rich, vinous malt character, heavily woody/smokey. Surprisingly dry. Grassy, tarry finish. A fantastic attention grabber!

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, at RBESG grand tasting, August 2005. Us Brits don’t get the chance to try too many smoked beers, so this was a welcome opportunity. Pungent aroma of smoke, tar and pitch. Redolent of all sorts of nautical stuff like boatyards and chandlery (not really sure why). More of the same on the palate, but it was joined by a phenolic, medicinal tang which I felt detracted from the overall impression. So not entirely successful but mightily interesting.

3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Fresh smoked wood aroma is simple and enticing. Hazy amber-copper coloured body with lasting, fine bubbled, off white head. Fresh, campfire smoke, some cooked vegetables and cereal malt flavours. Medium-light body is dry with fair carbonation. Bottle sampled at RBESG 2005.

Sampled at RBESG 2005.
Hazy brown, small white head. Dominating smoke aroma, like putting your head into a chimney. Quite sweet in the flavor dominated by smoke malt. Smokey and ashy with tones of smoked makarell. Flavorfull and nice and not overwhelming.
