I am not a big fan of smoked beers but I love Ilsay whiskey so I’m not all together consistent. This has enough peated with a whiskey character to win me over. Massive smoke both on the nose and in the mouth. Sweetness from the malts, peat, vanilla, smoked wood but a small glas is enough for me.

On tap @ BBF 2011. The aroma has nice junipers, smoke, some peat. Clear, dark red coloured beer with a thin head. The taste has a clean bitterness, some malt, junipers and smoke. Very nice.

Palme (2311) - Bergen, NORWAY - NOV 9, 2011
Tap @ Oliver Twist, Stockholm. This is a deep brownish beer with a nice lasting and creamy light beige head. The aroma is peaty and light roasted. Smoky and beefy with hints of pine. Nice and peaty. It has the strangest mouthfeel I’ve ever had in a beer. It’s really creamy and thick as few other beer, but still fluffy and light as air. No idea what to think of it! Flavors are really peaty but it also has a sourness that cuts through the smokiness. To be honest I’m not sure if it is supposed to be here, but it suits the strange mouthfeel quite nicely. Ends more peaty than smoky, with a lasting sour almost brett-hint mixed with some licorice in the aftertaste. Well, I’m not 100% convinced but it’s undoubtedly a solid smoked.

Chestnut color, small off-white head. Aroma: Campfire, smoked sausage, bacon, roast, strong liquorice, smoke and strong tobacco. Taste is equally smoky with many fine manly qualities. Smoky, harsh, tarry and strong. Lots of bitter liquorice as well, providing the punch.

_angst_ (1796) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - NOV 1, 2011
Draught @ The Rover on October 31. Pours deep copper brown with a thick rustcoloured head. Smell is slightly sweet with wood, smoke, juniper berries, tar, whisky and some alcohol. Taste is sweet and malty with smoke, wood, vanilla and some sour hints. Finish is dry and bitter. Really nice for a smoked beer.

Draught. Pours a deep amber, with a thin beige head. Very smokey aroma, caramel, hops, iodine, bacon, animals (!). Off-dry, full bodied, medium bitterness, low CO2. Very rich and smokey taste, caramel, leather, pine, herbs, malt. Really nice. (2011-10-28)
