Probably the best brew I’ve ever had. tatse is very complex; the aging in cognac barrels adds sweetness to a fairly bitter Imperial stout. The lenght of the taste is amazing and crushes everything you might have had before. Smell is amazing with a very wide variety of things, such as wood, alcohol, malts, hops ( bitter and aromactic ), macerated fruits....

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2012 draft at Avenue Pub in New Orleans, January 2012. the cognac influence is rather mild, and if I were to guess I’d probably say some sort of wine barrel, as it’s mostly tannins which seem to have affected the beer, along with a generic brandy / grape and, I guess, cognac. sticky, full body. moderately strong roast and char with comforting thickness and alcohol warmth and dry, woody edges. oxidized plum wine and roast intensifies as it opens with warmth and time. well-constructed though my guess is it’s falling off, as the tannins and oxidation seem a bit too strong compared the character of the base stout (or porter, whatever). inky pleasant softness with balanced alcohol. fine stuff.

1400th rating. On tap at The avenue pub. Pours a motor oil black with tan head diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is a roasted malt smoke and chocolate. Thick mouthfeel with a smoke and choclote roast a long lingring smoke finish that stays on the tounge for minutes. Wow really enjoyed this one!

Verily, ’twas the ale I had dreamt of for several fortnights being poured right before me at the Pub on the Avenue, for the day of the Swedish invasion was upon the city of New Orleans. The liquid brought forth imagery of the abyss; foreboding, dark, and intriguing. Aye, the wisps of earthen colour fluttering about on top yielded to the slightest motion. Upon smelling this concoction, I was greeted warmly by rich cognac; ’twas a comfort like lying in a field on a summer’s day. Coffee flavours tickled mine nostrils, reminiscent of the local cafe. A bouquet of roses would have difficulty comparing to the sweetness brought forth by this beauty. I brought this loveliness to my lips and a cacophony of taste danced upon mine tongue. Roasted nuts, dark fruits, and cognac made for a divine liquid dessert befitting a king. Oh what a temptress! Mine palate was all-encompassingly coated by this oily delight. Swallowing this nectar was oh so bittersweet; sad for it to go, but desirous for more. Mine throat was warmed like sitting at the fireplace on a cold winter’s night. Like pining for a fleeting love, I will launch a never-ending pursuit to find this blissful drink again...NICE SHIT. Konjaks is a top fucken beer!

1/21/12. On tap. Opaque black pour with with a nice brown head that fades to a ring but sticks. Rich aroma of roasted malts, sweet chocolate, sweet liquor, and a huge ashy aspect. Sweet milk chocolate flavor with sweet liquor, roasted malts, and more of that huge ashy aspect again. Nice!

bottle... best looking stormakts I’ve seen, oily dark black, big dark tan head rises a few fingers and looks great, but then it fades quickly... the nose is a bit light, smoke, char, oak, the finish is very smooth with lots of cognac, complex and good... the taste is quite excellent as its perfectly balanced, still lots of smoke but the cognac is sweet and smooth, lots of molasses... very good

0.25l bottle @ Akkurat, Stockholm. Fan-tastic! Pours a pitch black body with almost no head. Some thin stuff that can remind id a sidesticking head, but not really worth mentioning. It feels like the aroma fills the whole area with roasted and woody niceness. Actually a bit surprised that they served it this cold. Cant be more than 8 or 9 degrees this one, but I’m sure they know what they are doing. Yeah, the aroma, oh the aroma. When it comes to live after a few minutes in my warming hands: lovely roasted with vanilla, deep dark chocolate, alcohol with tones of both leather and licorice. Really nosable! It has a soft to average carbonation level with a thick and delicious oily mouthfeel. The flavors are equally epic like the aroma; packed with roasted goodness, it’s just so fantastically balanced. Chocolate, wood, cognac without that sharp and stingy cognac-mouthfeel. Dry, lightly sweet and fantastic finish with a everlasting warming and really want want want-more aftertaste.
