4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 tiong (2238) - Espoo, FINLAND - NOV 1, 2011
Originally rated on 30.10.2011. 250ml bottle @ Akkurat, Stockholm (price 245 SEK!)
Pours pitch black with a tiny, bubbly and sticky brown head. Strong aroma of oak, vanilla, caramel, toffee, whisky/cognac notes with hints of wood and roasted malts. Great roasty taste with a lot of oak, vanilla and toffee notes and hints of cognac and sweet syrup. Finish is slightly sticky but still extremely tasty and nice. Alcohol is well hidden. Extremely well balanced barrel aged imperial stout, on par with the original kaggen, or maybe even slightly better. Just a tad too sweet for my taste and not quite as roasty and hoppy as I’d prefer, but otherwise almost perfect.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Frovigalning (2024) - Örebro, SWEDEN - OCT 30, 2011
Sample at SMÖF 2011. It poured an almost pitch black liquid with a brown head. ’Sweet smell with cognac and wood. Malty sweet with cognac and wood. A very nice beer, the cognac aromas merry very well with the beer. The regular Kaggen is still the best though.

Bottled@Akkurat, Stockholm. Quite much pitch black colour, small off-white head. Aroma is wood, cognac, some alcohol as well as some mild vanillaish notes. Flavour is wood, sweet malts, some alcohol as well as some vanilla and mild spicy notes. Nicely balanced.

4.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 50belair (1328) - Florida, USA - OCT 15, 2011
Bottle shared with Chris and Eric. Joan Jett black pour with a small tan head. The nose is real boozy with those awesome deep roasted malt, a la Stormaktsporter, undercurrents. Unlike my two amigos I preferred this version to the Swedish Oak. Wonderful dark roasted malt, sweet cognac, vanilla, bitter chocolate, and caramel flavors. Out-freakin-standing. I am so impressed with this fantastic line of stouts (or maybe porters?) from Narke Kulturbryggeri..........
2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20 brunnsbe (66) - Helsinki, FINLAND - OCT 8, 2011
Tap@Akkurat. Of all beers today (visited Stockholm Beer Festival) this one has to be the biggest disappointment. I like the normal Stormaktsporter and especially the Kaggen but this cognac version was overwhelmed by sticky alcohol. I even had a hard time to finish it. Sorry, but no, this was pretty bad.
4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 _angst_ (1743) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - OCT 5, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 8, 2012 Bottle @ Akkurat on September 30. Pours black with small CO2 bobbles and a small white head. Smell is roasted malts, some smoked wood, chocolate and a tingling alcohol sensation. Mouthfeel starts out rather subtle but quickly grows exponentially into a great complex taste. A rather sweet taste that has roasted malts, some smoke, peat, alcohol, cognac and wood in it. Finish is dry with chocolate and coffee. Bitterness is prominent and suits the brew well. An incredibly complex beer with ton of goodness going on. I can’t wait to taste the rest of the Stormaktsporters out there.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 hopscotch (8212) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - SEP 23, 2011
Bottle… This beer rocks!… Pours nearly black with a small, creamy, khaki head. Decent retention. The luxuriant aroma offers boatloads of fudge and vanilla. What’s up with all these European imperial stouts showing notes of fudge instead of the dark chocolate, molasses and espresso components their American counterparts present? Dutch. Swiss. Swedish. Danish. Doesn’t seem to matter. Hmmm? Well, I love fudge. I don’t pick up much wood or Cognac in the aroma. Full-bodied with a silky mouthfeel and a tinge of carbonation. The flavor provides sweet fudge up front and heavy, tannic bitterness on the backside. Finishes boozy, burnt and bitter. Big-time thanks to a good friend for sharing this world class brew! You know who you are.
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 darkguardian (720) - Florida, USA - SEP 22, 2011
Pours a dark black, nose is rich bitter chocolate but slightly muted compared to the swedish oak and normal kaggen. Taste is moderate chocolate, balanced roasted malt, and a little taste of cognac that lingers on the back of the tongue.
