4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Ktwse (706) - SWEDEN - SEP 2, 2011
UPDATED: SEP 3, 2011 Not as balanced as the Kaggen but still - obviously - a brilliant beer! Pours black (!) with a very small tan head. Nose has plums, brown sugar, dark chocolate, a touch of coffee, roasted malt and not least alcohol. The cognac barrel seems to be coming through. Alcohol is very present in the flavor as well, as is sugar, syrup, malt. There’s a very balanced coffee bitterness accompanying the flavors and lingering into the finish, but overall it tasted a bit sweeter than Kaggen and didn’t feel as complex. Body is quite heavy with low carbonation.

Rich and luxurious taste with notes of Bourneville chocolate, roasted coffee, cognac and raisins. Very rich. A real sipper to savour. Classy, elegant and tasty.

Bottle (25cl) at Akkurat, Stockholm. Black with small light brown head. Highly complex aroma of roasted malt, fruity acidity, port wine sweetness, tar, wood, light smoke, licorice, coffee. All remarkably well blended and balanced. full-bodied, oily and velvety smooth.
4.9 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 Rasmus40 (6937) - Beder, Aarhus, DENMARK - JUL 25, 2011
Black with a big dark brown dense dark brown head. If the scale for appearance went to 100, it’d still get full points. Aroma is quite sweet, roasted malt, coffee, dark chocolate and cognac. Flavor is very sweet and rather bitter. Dry and roasted rather bitter finish. Smooth and oily. 090711
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Marsiblursi (2952) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - JUL 19, 2011
UPDATED: APR 3, 2012 (Bottle) Pours black with a light brown head. The aroma holds honey, alcohol, cognac, grapes, apples, salt liquorice, wood, espresso, dark chocolate, resinous hops, bitter nut shells, charcoal, burned cookies, glue and tar-ish asphalt alongside a vinous note. Fat and elegant on the nose. A fantastic beer, yet completely different if you compare it with Kaggen (the regular Stormaktsporter is still the best version). The flavor is medium sweet, light to medium bitter and light acidic. Tones of salt liquorice, coffee, dark chocolate, wood, cognac, tar, honey, mild dark fruits, apple, grapes, bitter nutshells/almonds, and light resinous/wooden/earthy/citric hops. The mouthfeel is round, velvety, light tart and light sticky with a perfect carbonation. Hops and gentle roast on the finish. Medium to full bodied. Fantastic!
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 MrChopin (2527) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUL 16, 2011
Black with light red hints, small cream-colored, large bubbled head. Nose is light roast and chocolate that bows to cognac character, startling in the effervescence and light pepper. Flavor is similar the stout roast and chocolate giving way to melon and cognac, a burnt toast lingering throughout. Thin, silky body. I don’t think the cognac complimented the base here, instead washing it out. I’d like to try again down the road though as something like this could work, maybe an imperial stout aged in champagne barrels from the Italians.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 sayravai (4654) - Helsinki, FINLAND - JUL 15, 2011
(Bottled@Home - thanks, Markku!:) Very dark brown with a smallish and bubbly, quickly descending, beige head. Strong tarry and licoricey maltiness in the aroma, with some oatmeal sourness. Flavor is silky-smooth with lots of tar, some smooth oakiness, only a touch of color malt, and a long but smooth alcohol warmth in the finish. Full body with lowish CO2 and a warming, sticky palate. Maybe ever so slightly boozy, but otherwise just about as good as an IS gets in mid-July :)

Smell: Cookies, coffe, chocolait, burnt
Taste: Honey, dates, raisins, vanilla, chocolait, tea?, burnt, coffe-
Mouthfeel: Very smoth, but quite sweet.
Notes: Very good, but a bit to sweet to rate it as the perfect beer.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 pantanap (3153) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUN 24, 2011
Narke konjaks stormaksporter. 330cl bottle purchased at akkurat. pricey little bottle but gladly splitted with per..
Pours a mostly still medium consistency soy saucy pour, just a touch
lighter at the edges with a reddish brown hue and absolutely no head
whatsoever whereas monica’s portion poured with a thin quickly
dissipating film... Boozy assetic cognac nose with a moderate smoke
undertone, almost whiskey like that meshes well with the
aforementioned qualites. Dark bitter chocolate notes surface an
intermingle cohesively underneath... Flavors follow on a similar note
with smooth bitter chocolate notes with an equally pungent dose if
smoke and tobacco qualities much akin to a whiskey, almost a soft
chile like heat. Smooth, earthy body with a nice bitterness in the
finish that lingers on the palate. Nice imperial stout notes that
intertwine effortlessly with the cognac barrel essence. the slight not is given to kaggern, at least for me.
