Draught @ Borefts Bier Festival 2010, Brouwerij de Molen, Overtocht 43, Bodegraven, Netherlands.

Clear dark brown black color with a average, frothy to creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, dark chocolate, strong coffee, wood - oak, alcohol - cognac. Flavor is light heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, peat - smoke notes. Body is medium to full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finsh feel is light alcoholic. Prefered the normal Kaggen Stormaktsporter. [20100924]

Draught at Borefts Beer Festival 2010, 2009 version, courtesy of Håge - thanks! Very black, dark brown head. Aroma of brandy, chocolate, raisins, vanilla. Alcohol slightly more noticeable in this one. Very complex. Wonderful brew.

At De Molen festival 2010 ... black ... thin tan lacing ... fruity roast toffee malt nose ... big open roast toffee malts ... light alcohol linger ... little oxidation.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2012 My favorite Närke Kaggen so far. Maple syrup in the aroma. Hints of licorice, honey and cognac in the aroma and flavor. The oak and cognac are especially clearly noticeable in the flavor. Can’t wait for an Islay version. 2010 sample from tap @ Borefts 2012. Roast, coffee, oak, maple syrup and cognac in the aroma. Sweet, amazingly complex tart flavor. Coffee, brandy, dried red fruit. Oak. Some alcohol. Almost as divine as the samples I had at Borefts 2010.

Compared to the Swedish oak edition, this has more spice in it but it conflicts somewhat with the gentle taste of the beer. The aroma is also somewhat less profound.

From tap. Pours dark brown with a small chocolate brown head. Aroma is roasted, fruity and slight winous. Fruity, dark malty, caramelish, wineous and slight smoked. Lingering fruity. Malty and caramelish with a slight wineous fruity into the far finish. Lovely.

On tap @ 2nd BBF. The aroma has coffee, chocolate, tobacco/ash, cognac. Black coloured beer with a lasting, beige head. The taste is truely wonderfull; A great match of cognac and oak combined with the superb Kaggen. Think this is the best special barrel aged Kaggen I had so far.

Entered as my rating no. 3100. On tap at Borefts Festival 2010. It pours pitch black with a tan creamy head. The aroma is oak, chocolate, coffee, roast, light smoke and lighter notes of dark fruit. The flavour is roast, warming alcohol, chocolate, coffee and tobacco. Creamy texture. Long roasted finish. Nice and complex.
