4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Nocturne (391) - Cheshire, ENGLAND - OCT 4, 2012
Tap at Borefts 2012. Black with a brown head. Roasty, chocolatey nose with wafts of mysterious cognac creeping up and washing over everything. Slightly lighter in body than anticipated, but retaining much of the complexity, and fairly sweet. The cognac works a magic of its own on this beer but I preferred the regular version overall.

Draft @ BBF’12 Black beer, brown head. Roasted malts, some coffe and chocolate. Not thát special to be honest. Just a very accessible imperial stout. Smooth, full-bodied and softly carbonated.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 snzcujo (274) - RUSSIA - OCT 2, 2012
On tap @Borefts fest 2012.
Pours totally black with a tiny brownish head.
Aroma is quite light, mostly caramel sweetness and roasted barley.
But taste is awesome, very elegant and complex.
Aftertaste has a good pack of hop bitterness with a sweet hint.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 Leighton (7183) - London, ENGLAND - OCT 1, 2012
On tap at Borefts 2012, Bodegraven. Pours oily black with a creamy, brown head. Rich bitter chocolate nose, soft roasted malts. Medium sweet flavor, rich chocolate, some dark raisins, soft smokey wood. Medium to full bodied with fine, smooth carbonation. Faintly warming to finish with full and rich dark, bitter chocolate, light roast. Just unbelievably drinkable. The character is really well realised, and I can’t recall many imperial stouts that drink as effortlessly as this one. A top beer of the festival.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 jackl (2832) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 1, 2012
Keg @ Borefts 2012. First beer of the festival! The pour’s a deep, thick dark brown with a tiny tan head. The nose is soft bruised apple, sugar-coated wood, ketchup, umami. The taste is roasted wood, big syrupy chocolate. More yellow apple and plenty of sweet cognac. Dry, smooth finish. Very oily and viscous. The body’s big, but not boozy or menacing at all. The texture’s oily, luxurious. Smooth and dangerously easy to drink. Soft carbonation. Overall, wow, a great beer. Subtle flavors presented in wonderful harmony. Not over the top, just delicious. Imperial stouts don’t need to be boozy bombs.
