Keg @ Borefts 2012. First beer of the festival! The pour’s a deep, thick dark brown with a tiny tan head. The nose is soft bruised apple, sugar-coated wood, ketchup, umami. The taste is roasted wood, big syrupy chocolate. More yellow apple and plenty of sweet cognac. Dry, smooth finish. Very oily and viscous. The body’s big, but not boozy or menacing at all. The texture’s oily, luxurious. Smooth and dangerously easy to drink. Soft carbonation. Overall, wow, a great beer. Subtle flavors presented in wonderful harmony. Not over the top, just delicious. Imperial stouts don’t need to be boozy bombs.

Cognac and alcohol come through in the aroma. Very thick, it really coats the tongue. Warming taste of cognac and bitter tar leads to a bittersweet finish.

On tap at Borefts. Poured dark and syrupy, aroma is of heavy fruit and liquorice. Flavour is heavy and roasted. Like trying to drink treacle.

On tap at 4th Borefts. Pitch black colour with thick, reawakening, lacing, brown head. Complex sweet dark malty aroma with notes of vanilla, smoke, roast, wood. Taste is even more complex, chocolate and honey siruppy sweetness with harmonically corresponding roasty, smokey, woody and vanilla notes. Full body, oily palate. Un-be-fuckin’-lievable!

Just as with pretty much everyone else this was my first beer @ Borefts 2012 // 2010 Draft vintage. Half a tasting glass pours, this pours rather viscous almost syrup-like, impressive. Pitch black, little in the way of a tanned head. Smells is oily, smoked almost going over touch peated, some licorices, thick, mocha dark fruits. This prunes, licorice almost seaweed and turf like notes in the flavour, tad bitter, thick oily roast, viscous, bitter sweet, sweet small touches of bitter and warming cognac in the back. Solid sludgy with quite sludgy carb. Damn fine beer but comparable equally good stuff is out there. Lovely to try and damn mighty fine tick. Probably too high expectations no beer can live up to - not really the beers fault.

Draught @ Borefts ’12 (2010 edition). Black color, with brown head. Aroma’s: sour fruit/cognac, umami, soy sauce, roasted. Wood comes out more retronasal. Flavor is medium sweet, somewhat roasted. Quite strong alcohol feel, full body, low carbonation. Finishes with some wood, soy sauce, lightly bitter. Quite delicate.
