4.8 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20 mdfb79 (8) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - MAR 30, 2011From 6/12/10 notes. Got to sample this side by side with Kaggen! thanks to nimbleprop, big thanks Mac! 2007 vintage.
a - Pours a dark brown color with an inch of light brown head and no carbonation.
s - Smells of chocolate, cocoa, light coffee, dark fruits, and roasted malts.
t - I know this isn’t oak aged, but I thought I tasted some oak in it. Also tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, vanilla, coffee, and a lot of dark fruit. Hint of booze.
m - Medium body and moderate carbonation. Very smooth and easy to drink 9% ABV.
d - An amazing beer that I was really glad I got to taste. To be honest, I thought this and Kaggen! were very similiar, with this having a little more pronounced dark fruit and Kaggen! having more oak. Both are easily 2 of the best beers I have ever had and I would love to try them again some day.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 mcberko (4052) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 29, 2013
UPDATED: APR 30, 2013 Vintage 2006. 250mL bottle at Akkurat, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of rich dark fruits, some light roasted malts, and more dark fruits - very fruity. Flavour brings out heavy roasted malt, a little feint licorice, some dark fruits, and more roasted malt. Remarkably complex, with an exceptional depth. There is a syrupy quality to it as well, which would normally not work for me, but in this sense it is incorporated beautifully and only adds to the complexity. In general, there is an amazing balance of roast and dark fruits. Can only imagine what the Kaggen! is like!

Musty dark malt nose with burnt bread, wood and dark chocolate. Medium to big sweet flavor, lightly tangy, with burnt/ wet wood, strong earthy bitterness, dark baking cocoa, some meat. 3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 jackl (2566) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 8, 2013
2008 Bottle @ THE Stouts Tasting. Cheers to Ken for the pour! The appearance is deep brown with a tiny espresso head. The nose is huge roasty chocolate, rich coffee. Sweet, earthy toffee. Just a hint of dark fruit - raisins and plums. The taste is softly vinous, red grape, more raisin. Rich coffee cinnamon bun. Plenty of roasted chocolate malts. Burnt brown sugar. Mild soy sauce. Full, thick body, soft carb. Plenty of sugar. Overall, quite nice, but there’s a mild raisin-like tang to this that I don’t love. Still, quite good.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 thedm (4773) - Fort Wayne, USA - JAN 1, 2013
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a very small sized head of frothy dark brown colored bubbles that were quickly diminishing and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque dark brown colored body and a good lacing. The nice aroma was brown malt. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start mediumly tingly at the finish roasted malt aftertaste. The deep flavor contained notes of roasted malt brown malt and hops. Delicious and one I would certainly like to have again.

Poured at Borefts. Black. Small brown head. No lacing. Raisin and plums on the nose with big hints of molasses and chocolate. Sweet molasses taste. Big booze in the nose and throat. Not bad. Lots of sugary sweetness left on the lips.

[Thanks to oh6gdx]. 25cl bottle. Dark brown colour with a quickly dissapearing tan head, great viscosity while poured. Aroma has toasted and roasted malts notes, licorice, light alcohol, coffee notes. Flavor has notes of dark coffee, alcohol, bourbon, light cocoa notes, black chocolate, wooden hints. The final has notes of dark coffee with an excellent sensation and duration in the aftertaste. Very dense on palate, creamy and smooth. Light alcoholic sensation that is hidden by the coffee and black chocolate notes. Carbonation is low. Body is high. Texture is oily.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 neepsntatties (883) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 19, 2012
Bottle courtesy of "hannont". Colour...black with a thick tan head. Nose...dark molasses, burnt sugar and a little soy. Palate...velvety, coating and plush with dark chocolate and devils food cake leading the charge and sharing the ride with treacle, cocoa mass, baked brown sugar butter and a delightfully boozy aspect that carries across the whole of the palate.
