Bottle at a Den Haag RB tasting. Poured reddish brown with a big frothy off white head. A rich smoky aroma but not overpowering. The flavour is smoky woody malty with coffee and spicy liqourice on the palate. A truly hand crafted ale.

Bottle. Dark cola with a tanned head. Very nice balanced smoke aroma alongside with woody notes and a nice malty backbone. Flavor is bittersweet with a lot of smoke present. The balance in this beer is amazing. Medium bodied and carbo. Great!

2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Benzai (4344) - Oirschot, NETHERLANDS - OCT 4, 2012
Draught @ Borefts 12. Slightly unclear copper color, small to medium sized a bit creamy off-white head. Smell malts and heavely peated or smoked or both, almost like fingerpaint I used as a kid. Damn I hate that smell. Taste is slightly better, but here also the fingerpaint-resembling peat / smoke comes through. Low to medium body, medium carbonation. Not my thing at all.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jackl (2587) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - OCT 3, 2012
Tap @ Borefts 2012. The pour’s deep amber with a small head. The nose is smoked ham, soft honey comb, smooth dark malt flavors and dried wood. The taste is more smokey ham, charred wood. Delicate herbal hop burn on the finish. Very smooth, nicely executed. Not my favorite collection of flavors (smoke), but good for what it is.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Leighton (6945) - London, ENGLAND - OCT 3, 2012
On tap at Borefts 2012, Bodegraven. Pours clear, ruby-gold with a fine, off-white cream head. Nicely rounded smoke aroma. Medium sweet flavor with a bit of dry caramel, pleasant smoke, faint honey-cured ham. Medium bodied with fine to average carbonation. Good, balanced finish, some toasty bread, rich smoke, a bit more ham. Quite nice.
