4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 MesandSim (7118) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 23, 2009
A Mes rate. Draught at 1st Borefts Beer Festival. Amazing red amber colour with a thin but lasting off white head. Full on smoke and ashtray stuff but in the best way. Stunning juniper notes that are not over done at all. All the other juniper beers I have had have been awful, this was the exact opposite. The smoked malt is about the best I have had. Schlenkerla eat your heart out. Seriously. Excellent berry notes in the finish followed by even more smokiness. It’s a real love or hate thing clearly, and it doesn’t do a great deal but what it has, really hits the spot for me. Really enjoyed talking to the Narke guys about the making of this and the photos of the boiling tree were just hilarious!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 hirigalzkar (1822) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - JAN 30, 2010
Draught@Akkurat. Dark red color, creamy white head. Aroma is sweet (caramel), smokey and spicy (juniper and fertilizer!). The taste is as complex as the aroma. Caramel, small sourness, smoke, lingonberry, orange and fat hops. Medium bodied.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 77ships (2162) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - SEP 30, 2012
Draft @ Borefts 2012. Very ruby amber and a head that looks like milk with coffee. Nose is that of clean charcoal, defined sharper smoke, leather and some almost peated smoke in there.Taste is moderate easier smoke, leather, some tad sweeter darker malts, cleaner fresh-made charcoal, some mild berries, light touch of clean sourness. Medium bodied. This feels like a porter-like beer they probably made way back - what a take back from the description this is a doppelbock. Närke does appear to hark back to traditions which I do like. Probably lovelier to just drink as well than to just have a tasting glass of this.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 NoiZe (2325) - Amersfoort, NETHERLANDS - DEC 9, 2009
Tasted at the first, great, Borefts Beer Festival 2009 @ De Molen. Very nice story from the brewers about the origin of this beer. Amber, brown colored brew. Aroma is smoky, juniper, tree. Flavor is also a lot of the whole juniper tree that went in there. Smoke, malty, some hops. Nice brew, great.

UPDATED: JUL 17, 2012 On tap @ In de Wildeman, light brown colour, slightly hazy with foamy, long lasting head. Aroma full of smoke, slight coffee hint. Long lasting taste of smokey oak with hint of coffee. Wicked beer.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Beershine (5173) - The Sunshine State, Florida, USA - MAR 12, 2012
Bottle at CCB tasting party. Copper brown. Amazingly fun bandaid smoke. Smooth smoky campfire smoked malt tastes very primitive in a good way. Nothing wrong with it. If you like smoke and leather, with a hint of bandaid with some nice malt sugars carrying the body...why not? Fun stuff!
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 omhper (17478) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - NOV 27, 2009
Draught at Örebro Öl- och Whiskeyfestival. Clear brownish amber, fairly small head. Gotlandsdricke-like juniper twig aroma. Smokey with near full body and well rounded mouthfeel. The combination of strong juniper twig flavour and smoke makes it flavourwise very close to traditional gotlandsdricke, but the clean flavour profile, probably a result of bottom fermentation, makes it less fruity, estery and rustic. Finishes with slight bitterness. Damn good beer - and very interesting too!

On tap @ 1st BBF, de Molen. The aroma has smoke, wood and spicy juniper stuff. Red-brown coloured beer with an off-white, lasting head. The taste is bitter, quite smokey and with all the junper berries there. Medium bodied beer. Very interesting and well-brewed.
