Roll out the Barrel: 5.0% Alcohol by Volume and 12 IBUs. A classic American lager and the workhorse of the Gansett stable. Available all year long in bottle, can and on tap! Quality Supreme: We brew our lager with six row malt, seedless hops, corn from Iowa, our lager strain (the same one the brewery has depended on since just after Prohibition), and the purest water from Lakes Ontario and Hemlock. Taste & Enjoy: This beer is brewed just right for drinking—crisp and refreshing. It’s got more flavor than other premium lagers, yet it’s one of the most drinkable beers in the world. Narragansett has the highest rating of all domestic premium lagers on BeerAdvocate.com, and received the bronze medal for American Lagers at the 2008 World Beer Cup The History: The Lager is old reliable. It was the first beer brewed by “The Original Six” back in 1890, the bestselling beer in New England from the 1930s to the 1970s, and the official beer of the Boston Red Sox from 1944-1975.

Contract brewed by High Falls Brewing Co. for since 2007, the production moving to City Brewing in La Crosse, Wisconsin in 2009 and then to the City Brewing plant in Latrobe, PA in 2010. It is anticipated that production may be returned to Rhode Island in the future.

So this was the beer of the Red Sox? No wonder I’m a Yankees fan. A more bitter version of Natural Light at best. Drinkable, but not a go-to.

Draft at GABF 2013. Extremely quiet nose, as in there’s nothing to smell really. Takes a couple of minutes and a few swirls to coax a small bit of bready / cracker-y pale malt character out of it, and there’s no hop aromatics in play at all. Mild grain and corn kernel flavor with a watery body and twangy, sharp, sourish grains in the finish. Another throwaway lager.

Can @ Smoke & Barrel, Washington, D.C. Pours clear straw with airy white head. Clear aroma of yeast with notes of hops and a touch of grain. Mild, slightly bitter flavour with pronounced estery notes. Mildly bitter and rather skunky finish. Not a bad Pale Lager but, honestly, who likes this style?

Small shortlasting head. Aroma is slightly sour-ish, light malts, wet hay, grass, berries. Taste is slightly sweet, light malts, cereal, caramel, hay, cereal. Little bitterness. Just another boring lager.

A golden color with a great taste that is not very strong not mild. It has an aroma very smooth.

Bottle. Pours a clear yellow gold body with a small fizzy white head that faded to a thin film. The nose is pretty typical Pale Lager, a little bit of corn, a light vegetal undertone, zero hops. The flavor is fairly clean though, there’s certainly corn in here, but it’s not terribly center stage. Still a lack of hops in here, but I suppose that’s to be expected. Still miles better than most macro Pale Lagers. It’s actually pretty crisp on the finish with a short tight finish. Not a bad drinker, among the better efforts in the style.

Draft->shaker. Clear gold with medium white head. Aroma and taste are cereal, grains, and lager malt. Better than Bud, but that is faint praise indeed.
