Beer Guy99 (250), Maineville, Ohio, USA Aug 8, 2003 Narragansett is a victim of comments made by the very people that should be supporting it. It's far better than similar style beers from A-B and Miller. It has a good flavor for a golden American lager. It may even have a higher dose of hops. I taste 'em and I think it has a pretty good balance for the style.
If you go to any metro area and buy the local brand name, there's always some wise ass in a sleeveless shirt carrying a 12-pack of Bud to the counter. He looks at you with the local brew and says, "that stuff sucks." And I think to myself, that's the pot calling the kettle black." People, this is a perfectly good golden lager and it's cheaper than the national brand crap that you've been brainwashed into drinking. Neighbor, try a 'gansett again."
chrissy (79), Connecticut, USA Aug 10, 2008 Draft: Pours a light amber color with small white head that disappears quickly. Clean, light tasting lager. Very enjoyable. otakuden (54), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Jul 31, 2008 Updated: Aug 3, 2008Narragansett has been around for a long time. While it is before my day, "Gansett" as it affectionately is called shall bring back nostalgic memories of good times and younger days for a lot of older beer drinkers. Narragansett is using the original recipe, and they even acquired the original brewmaster to ensure lager perfection.
’Gansett pours a nice clear golden color with a very impressive head. A good two fingers at least, tight with bubbles, and creamy smooth. Very drinkable, leaving essences of spice, lemon, and a smidgen of grain from the malts. The hops aren’t overpowering, adding just the right bright crispness that makes my tongue tingle and salivate for more. Of course, I must answer such a desperate cry for help as I grab my glass. A steady stream of bubbles floats to the surface, maintaining and nice thin layer of foam on the top. Beautiful.
Clean, smooth, easily drinkable, with a perfect balance of flavor, Narragansett lager is a prime example of the lager style. PorterPounder (2810), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 29, 2008 St. Petersburg, Fl - Shep’s Deli - 12 oz bottle. Pours a pale golden with a thin and quickly dissipating white head. Typical cheap lager aroma with with some wet paper bag notes that always reminds me of walking through a liquor store as a kid for some reason. Some honey sweetness makes its way into the flavor with a bit of grassiness. Mouthfeel is about on par with most pale lagers - thin and not very crisp. About what I expected. Would drink this over Bud Light - especially if I was in Rhode Island where it is originally from. prc (13), Canada Jul 1, 2008 A very clean taste for something with so much flavour. A prototypical lager. Not too heavy. A great, somewhat rusty colour. From the bottle is recommended. markwise (257), Orlando, Florida, USA Jun 26, 2008 16 oz can, gift from kiefdog. Pours a transparent golden color with a small white head. Typical, yet heavy lager aroma, it is grassy and smells nice. The flavor is pretty bad. It was from a can, so it has a slight metal tint and it is yeasty, bready, and watery with a bad finish. I do not like this beer, but it had promise.
