COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Roll out the Barrel: 7% Alcohol by Volume and 22 IBUs. This American-style porter has robust malt flavor with a slight hop character. Available in the Winter Season on tap and in 16oz cans. Quality Supreme: Porter is crafted in small batches at Trinity Brew House in Providence, RI and Cottrell Brewery in Pawcatuck, CT under the supervision of Brewmaster Sean Larkin. It is brewed with summit hops, black malt, pale malt, roasted barley and ale yeast, and then dry hopped with Amarillo hops. Taste & Enjoy: Gansett Porter offers an extremely approachable craft experience that, unlike many of the other porters on the market, is not overly smoky or bitter. The Narragansett Porter has a deliciously mild chocolate flavor with just a hint of smokiness and hops to balance out the finish. The History: The Porter has been a part of the Narragansett Brewing Company’s lineup for decades, dating back to the 1916 (often found under the name “Narragansett Dark” in bars). Though it was beloved in the Portuguese fishing communities of Fall River and New Bedford, MA, Falstaff decided to abandon it in the ’70s because it was not a true porter. Now it is back and better than ever. As a tribute to the old “Gansett Dark,” today’s Narragansett Porter is milder and more refreshing than most, yet it is a true porter with greater flavor and complexity than its predecessor.

Can. Nice roasted malt, plums, chocolate, toasted dark bread. I think this is quite a good porter.

Rich deep brown coloured body with a ruby and violet glow at the bottom with a rich, thick, five centimetre tall rich milky brown head. Aroma of alcohol, roasted malt, nuts, peanut butter, chocolate, bread, cherries and some subdued lactic notes. Medium-bodied; Rich chocolate flavour with a big malt presence, some nuts and earthiness, a little hop bitterness and a slight metallic and medicinal note at the end. Aftertaste is relatively mild with the malt and nutty flavours coming through the most and a good milky finish showing a good depth, if not much complexity. Overall, a fairly respectable porter, not a great one, but drinkable and the can is nice for many occassions. I sampled this 50 cL can purchased from New Beer Distributors in New York, New York on 13-July-2013 for US$2.00 sampled at home after returning from New York a day earlier, on 04-November-2013.

Tried this last night at Ventnor in DC. I was expecting this to suck, but it was a really good porter. Nearly pitch black. Aroma of roastiness and chocolate. Flavor much the same. Went down smooth and easy. Good body, good head retention. What’s not to like.

This porter is clear but nearly black and nearly opaque, with a long lasting tan head. Excellent lacing. Aroma: lightly fruity with the expected medium and dark malts. Taste: wow! this has a lot of flavor, and very good flavor. Lightly sweet, with plenty of medium and dark roasted malts. O: very surpised at the quality and ’size’ of this beer. Very nice porter; recommended.

16oz can from Spirits Berkley. Poured an okay looking pitch black solid body with a larger foamy beige head that leaves two fingers of solid head. Aroma is on the flat/dull side and takes several deep inhales to really get what’s going on. Notes of sweet chocolate, burnt toast, old coffee, sugary plum and prunes and even a touch of bubblegum. Medium fuller body with average carbonation and a full chewy finish with some burnt malts that linger. Flavor is sweet, super sweet dark chocolate and dark fruits, some burnt toast and burnt tea leaves. The sweetness on this one is a bit surprising and needs to be toned down.

From notes: Poured deep, opaque nut brown, almost black. Thick, creamy 3-finger tan head. Nutty, roasty aroma, maybe with a touch of chocolate. Medium body, lightly oily. Chocolatey flavor with a nutty note beneath.

Draft in NYC. Medium brown pour. Middle of the road, tasty porter. Lots of cola and some sourness.

Clean ruby copper pour with a thin tan head. Nose is weird, diacetyl and oxidized. Papery, kind of like a dry stout. Good bit of diacetyl in the flavor with a heavy papery/oxidized component.

Can and Draught. This is another Gansett experiment that was interesting but does not warrant repeating.
