COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Roll out the Barrel: 7% Alcohol by Volume and 22 IBUs. This American-style porter has robust malt flavor with a slight hop character. Available in the Winter Season on tap and in 16oz cans. Quality Supreme: Porter is crafted in small batches at Trinity Brew House in Providence, RI and Cottrell Brewery in Pawcatuck, CT under the supervision of Brewmaster Sean Larkin. It is brewed with summit hops, black malt, pale malt, roasted barley and ale yeast, and then dry hopped with Amarillo hops. Taste & Enjoy: Gansett Porter offers an extremely approachable craft experience that, unlike many of the other porters on the market, is not overly smoky or bitter. The Narragansett Porter has a deliciously mild chocolate flavor with just a hint of smokiness and hops to balance out the finish. The History: The Porter has been a part of the Narragansett Brewing Company’s lineup for decades, dating back to the 1916 (often found under the name “Narragansett Dark” in bars). Though it was beloved in the Portuguese fishing communities of Fall River and New Bedford, MA, Falstaff decided to abandon it in the ’70s because it was not a true porter. Now it is back and better than ever. As a tribute to the old “Gansett Dark,” today’s Narragansett Porter is milder and more refreshing than most, yet it is a true porter with greater flavor and complexity than its predecessor.

Aroma is earthy, light manure, roasted coffee. The appearance is deep brown, billowy tan head, if you didn’t know better you would think this is a Nitro can. The flavor is much more chocolate, honey (?), some rosted coffee, better than the aroma. Medium in body, a tad thin for a porter. The finish is light resiny hops, roasty. I wonder if the dry hopping isn’t producing the odd aroma. Not bad at all, though. Especially for the $1 I paid for it at Trader Joe’s.

On tap with meal. Decent roast aroma. Taste of a slight tobacco, earth and some burnt sugar. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish.

16 ounce can. Pours a dark brown color with a thin creamy head. Decent head retention. Aroma of roasted malts with a sweet finish. Fairly faint. The taste is sweet malts, some roastiness, faint fruits and leafy hops. Medium bodied. A bit too sweet but still a solid beer.

Pours very dark thick turbid brown, toward black (no ruby here), with 3-finger creamy tan head and copious lacing. Nose is chocolate malt, some definite spicy , peppery, and hoppy hints. Tastes rich, somewhat sweet, witha big chocolate flavor, some carob nibs, roasty chocolate malt, and finishing hints of smokiness and molasses. The hops emerge late, and the palate remains complex and thick and smooth. A wonderful porter.

Pours deep dark brown with a brown head. Aroma is roasty, dark chocolate and earthy. Taste is sweet with a roasty bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied, better then expected.

a very rich heavy beer, with a dark over toasted malty head a slight bitterness at the end, it looks really well done and the head is nice and creamy. there is a slight burnt that makes it really well drinkable.

Can with Sander at his place. Decent roast aroma, some mild tobacco and cocoa. Medium sweet flavor, some earth, cigar smoke, burnt sugar. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Sweet finish, modest roast, some dark sugar, light dirty bitterness of earth, mild charcoal. Pretty decent.

16 oz can. Pours dark brown with some reddish highlights & a creamy 2 finger mocha head. Head slowly gives way to some decent lace. Yummy chocolate malt and vanilla bean aroma which carries through in the taste. Little on the sweet side, but I’m not thinking thats a bad thing. Full creamy palate with soft carbonation. I’ll buy again.

This porter was among the sweeter ones. Earthy notes on the tongue were too light, and rather sweet with a touch of hops.

Can (16 oz) at World of Beer. Not a bad porter out of the folks from Narragansett. Good roasted malt profile with a nice aftertaste.
