COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Roll out the Barrel: 4.2% Alcohol by Volume and 24 IBUs. This year, we’re brewing a summer seasonal for the first time! Our Summer Ale is an easy-drinking, session Pale Ale that pays homage to ‘Gansett’s original Pale Ale. Available on tap and in 16oz cans from May – August, the Summer Ale is too good to miss! Quality Supreme: Narragansett Summer is a light session ale made with two row pale malt and citra hops. The citra hops are a very popular, newer variety that deliver aromas of citrus and passion fruit without overpowering the taste buds. The beer is blonde in color and the mild kiss of the hops complement the pale malt perfectly, making it extremely drinkable. The draft is brewed in small batches at Trinity Brew House in Providence and Cottrell Brewery in Pawcatuck, CT, and the tall boy cans are brewed at High Falls Brewery in Rochester, NY. Taste & Enjoy: The Summer Ale pours golden, producing a generous white head, and perfect carbonation. The malt flavor is smooth and subtle, balanced out by a crisp hop bitterness. Aromas of mixed fruits are very evident, but mild on the palate. The superior drinkability and lower alcohol content make this beer perfect for summer sessions on the beach, the boat, the backyard patio, or at the ballgame. The History: While history tells us that Narragansett Lager is the beer that made ‘Gansett famous, the brewery also began producing a wide variety of ales when it opened in the late 1800’s. Pale Ale, Select Stock Ale, and Banquet Ale were all staples in the Narragansett Beer line-up long before Curt Gowdy first popularized the phrase “Hi neighbor, have a ‘Gansett!” during Red Sox broadcasts. In fact, the old brewery had an entire four-story building dedicated to the “Ale Department” throughout most of the 20th century, and the Narragansett Ales outsold the Lager until the 1940’s. It has been documented that American tastes changed from darker and more bitter ales to lighter and easier drinking lagers after Prohibition for two reasons. First, waves of immigrants from lager-drinking Central and Eastern European countries had come to America during the early 1900’s, and second, thousands of American GI’s returned home from Europe with years of lager drinking experiences after World War I and World War II. Yet while it was Narragansett’s award-winning lager that helped propel the brand to the status of the #1 beer in New England by the late 1940’s, the ales continued to be a valuable part of the ‘Gansett portfolio well into the 1970’s.

16oz tall boy, no canning date from Amity Wine in New Haven for $8.99/sixer. Citra hops, eh? Enticing. Clear light gold with a one finger off-white head, fading to a thick ring and thin film before long. Nose is kinda weak, but what is there is some tropical passionfruit and light floral hops. Light sweet malts and a tinge of corn behind--no diacetyl noted. Flavor follows suit with pretty mild notes, but not too sweet and fairly refreshing. Dry finish with bitterness peaking at a 3 with a little carbonic bite and a tinge of corn sweetness. Moderate carbonation with a light body. This beer seems fairly watered/dumbed down as it’s pretty subtle, but for a summer beer it’s OK in my book (that’s why it gets a 14--maybe a bit inflated, but the weather is sucky and this hits the spot). Add more hops (and malt) next time though--hard to believe it’s even 4.2%.

Shockingly good. Citra hops and light malts in a refreshing pale blonde ale. ’Ganset" strikes with a winner here for me.

My favorite "Summer" brew. Not a big fan of the typical summer seasonal wheat beer. Pale clear yellow color belies the rather robust taste you wouldn’t expect. Easy on the palate with a Citrusy start with light hop finish makes this beer truly refreshing.

bottle share at hill farmstead, this one was surprising. A good hoppy flavor on what seems to be a light saison background

Pours clear straw yellow with a white head and bubbly body. The aroma is lightly sweet, bit of malts and hops. The flavor brings light sweet notes at first with a slight presence of hops as it starts to settle on the tongue. Perfect lighter body almost drinking like a pilsener for a nice summer day of Phillies baseball. The sweet notes are my favorite part.

16oz. Can: Surprisingly decent aroma of hops, pine, cereal, and malt. Poured yellow in color with a large, creamy, dense, foamy, white head that greatly diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Excellent lacing. Flavor is slightly sweet and lightly bitter. Tastes of malt, corn, grass, hops, and grain. Light to medium body. Tingly, coating, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Lightly sweet, lightly bitter, malt, corn, hop, grass finish is dry. Better than I expected.

Tall boy. Golden pour with a small white head. Nose is grassy, herbal hops, light citrus, biscuit malts, light honey. Similar flavor, maybe some corny lager flavor pops in, but overall its very refreshing and dry. Pretty good considering. Will definitely pick some more up when I go somewhere that doesnt allow bottles.

Clear golden with a foamy white head. Lots of active carbonation. Light zesty hops and a bit of grain. Refreshing. Not a flavor powerhouse but quite the thirst quencher. A few of these on the porch would make for a fine summer evening.

Can (16 oz.) at World of Beer Land O Lakes. Pours a clear pale yellow with a foamy white head. Very mild yet flavourful at the same time. Easy drinking Summer ale. Not bad.
