COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Nashoba Valley’s Imperial Stout celebrates the history of Russian stouts and their marriage with micro brewing. This beer is brewed as a wintertime seasonal and is well worth the wait. The aroma suggests bittersweet chocolate, and the flavor does not disappoint. It has been aged on oak and cellared for three weeks before bottling. Rich and complex are only two of the words that can describe this beer. Enjoyed outside on a snowy day or inside next to a fire, this big beer will only enhance the pleasure of winter in New England. 2005 batch is not oak aged.

Bottle thanks to OldGrowth: Nearly opaque dark brown with a nicely-lacing frothy dark khaki head. Aroma of sweet earthy toasty dark caramel with some mild roasted malt and dark chocolate. Starts with a sweet sticky caramel flavor and a touch of raisins toward a more bitter lingering roasted dark fruity finish. A nicely-balanced, enjoyable imperial stout.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with small tan head. Aroma has signs of fruit, medicinal alcohol and dark roast. Flavorseems to be off a bit, has some dark roasted grain, fruity esters and a dirty hop bitterness that overpowers the dark roast grain bitter. Mouthfeel is medium-heavy body with medium carbonation. Overall, the earthy hop presence just over powered the dark roasted grain. Just wasn’t that enjoyable as other imperials.

12 oz bottle purchased at the brewery. Black in color, no light is getting through this one with a small light brown head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, coffee, dark fruit, light alcohol. Taste is chocolate, roast, coffee, light vanilla, espresso like. Light notes of dark fruit throughout the taste. Finishes roasty and bitter, with a grainy astringency that seems to be apparent in alot of imperial stouts. Body is medium, the carbonation is very soft. very good.

Pours a pitch black with no light coming through, leaving a brown foamy head that stayed with the pour. The smell was pure chocolate malt, espresso, bold hop presence that gave it a herbal fruit feel. The taste has a strong initial hop bite, as the body swirled on my tongue I tasted a dark chocolate sweetness on the palate, with a syrup consistency that coats the throat and allows for a brief rest then finishes dry and just a bit rough. This is a great Imperial Stout, one that is hidden since the distribution of Nashoba is pretty small, but one I would drive to the Winery again to buy. I would pair this stout with Maple Lemon Wings, the maple sweetness will really mirror the maple/brown sugar flavor in the stout and the bitter hop presence will help cut through that sweetness and refresh the palate.

Poured a clear very dark brown color with a reddish hue that is almost opaque and a medium tan head. Sweet roasted malt aroma with a touch of smoke. Sweet malty flavor but not as roasted as expected until the finish. Medium body with a sticky mouthfeel.
