Draft at the source. Clear amber color. Aroma of caramel. Taste is caramel on toasted graham crackers, very nice flavor for what is usually a pretty plain style.

Cask in American Oak: A reddish amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, woody oak with faint caramel. In mouth, an astringent bad idea, wood chip, like licking paper, not good. 5-3-3-2-4

Cask conditioned in Applewood: Same colour. Aroma, light caramel malt with faint oaken notes. In mouth, a caramel malt with light wooden notes, lactic points, so-so 6-3-6-3-12

On tap at Twin City Brewfest, August 13 2011.

12 ounce bottle from Lowes Foods in Hickory, NC on 4/7/11. Pours a clear amber color with a medium sized frothy offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing. Malty, nutty aroma. The taste is caramel, nuts, chocolate and bitter hops. Medium bodied. Refreshing. Nice beer.

This brew pours a clear dark amber color with a medium off-white head that diminishes steadily. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt, caramel and mild hops. Light body with a caramel malt character and notes of grain and hops. The finish is sweet with a short malty aftertaste. Fairly average overall.

Bottle. Light toffee malt aroma. Clear amber with moderate head. Lightly sweet toffee malt and mildly bitter herbal/grass flavor. Decent amber ale.

On tap at Natty Greenes, Greensboro NC on 13 July 2006 (noted at 4.8%). More copper than amber in colour. There’s a restrained flowery hop character and a touch of caramel malt. Clean and easy drinking. Less happening here than the APA. Respectable enough but not very inspiring.

12oz bottle: Pours a clear deep amber bronze with a stringy-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet toasty light caramel nose with a touch of piny, grassy hops. Starts with decent fullness and carbonation with some lightly sweet caramel and nutty flavors along with slight graininess before a drier bittersweet finish. Pretty true to style and drinkable, but could be a little cleaner and crisper.
