Strong-style India Pale Ale, deep copper in color witha a big, malty, hoppy palate and dry hopped with Centennial & Antanum for a spicy, citrus aroma. What better name for a big, strong beer than one of the biggest, strongest weapons of the Revolutionary War - the cannonball.

Cloudy golden pour. Hoppy beer with bitter finish, full bodied. What a hop beer should be.

Nice Impy IPA... Pours an orange-amber, semi-hazed into the glass, with a nice eggshell head that leaves generous lace. The nose is of citrus, pine and floral notes. The flavors, although not indicative of the traditional IIPA (not quite the malty backbone that I’m accustomed to), are integrated excellently. There is plenty of grapefruit, rind, zest, some caramel and pine needles throughout. The finish has a nice lingering hop bite, along with a touch of alcohol to close the pull. The mouthfeel is sticky, and the body is full. Excellent drinkability, and a solid addition to the Natty Greene’s line.

Pours an off-white head with a golden amber body. Smells of pineapple. Nice hop bomb with a slightly sticky and bitter finish.

While not flawed in any way, and certainly a tasty IPA, I cannot put this in the top tier of DIPAs for several reasons. It really doesn’t have the malt backing, or wildly bitter hop attack. Its more of a standard IPA with slightly higher alcohol content. That being said, its a quality quaffer with a strong citric hop aroma and long flavorful aftertaste. Well done, but on the low end of flavor for DIPA territory.

12oz bottle from a BIF. Pours a standard DIPA cloudy golden with a light white head. Aroma is citrus, grapefruit with some pine resin. Flavor is good, this isn’t top tier good, but I think it’s in the next level down (hard to beat fresh dreadnaught, pliny or hopslam). Medium to full body with a subdued carbonation. FIavor is good, with some pine, citrus and an underlying bitterness. I just think it doesn’t finish as clean as the top tier DIPAs also the flavor isn’t as addictive. Still a very enjoyable brew.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Winston-Salem. Pours a hazy vibrant burnished orange color with a small head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is resiny citrus hops with a nice malt backbone. Taste is bitter hops, citrus, resin, toffee and a little bit of soap. Full bodied. Overall very nice.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2009 Bottle from the BA Tasting (And yes 00cobra, I drank a full 12 ounce bottle. Notice that I am also posting a full review. Read and learn j.f.) Pours a hazy orange with an off white/pale yellow head. Floral hop aroma. Medium bodied with a nice earthy texure. Firm pale malt base stands behind a grapefruity hop bite. Finishes semi dry, but with soapiness and a puckering rind bitterness. Bitterness sticks to the palate. Not bad, but seems like this one needs to be fresh on tap.
