3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (8243) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 2, 2010
A golden amber IPA with a thin white head. In aroma, a doughy malt with loads of citrussy hops, oily and pinhey. In mouth, a rather chalkey mouth with sustained British hops, not as intense as expected, but good. On tap at Great North Carolina Brewers Fest., August 28 2010.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Boutip (3971) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 3, 2009
Bottle: Poured a clear amber color ale with super large foamy head with great retention and super good lacing. Aroma of slightly bitter hops with a medium caramel malt backbone. Taste is also dominated by some caramel malt with notes of medium bitter hops. Body is a bit thin but carbonation is super great with no appearance of alcohol. I thought hops were a bit shy for the style and malt backbone could have more dominant.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Aurelius (3444) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - MAR 23, 2011
Nice and spritzy. Pine and caramel, smooth drinking. Sticky mouthfeel, grainy, malty, a little grassy, not too bitter. Thanks to LuckyDog for bringing this back from the brewpub.

Thanks IBrew2or3 for the share. Pours hazy yellow with soapy white head. Nose is caramel, sugary lemon, lemongrassy spice, and citrus hops. Flavor is caramel, sugar, grass, and citrus hops. Medium bodied beer that lingers with hop bite. Nice.

Good beer. Quite a bit of malt sweetness but balance with a lot of bitterness not much caramel which works.

Originally reviewed: 4/25/09. Pours a cloudy deep gold with a nice frothy white head on top. Great retention and nice sticky lacing rings. Smells of deep pine scents and flowers. Very nice.
Mouthfeel is alot thinner than I would like. Pretty watery. Flavor is very muted hop bitterness. Some citrus in there. This is more like an APA in my mind. The only thing that makes this a double is ABV, and even that is fairly absent. Not bad, but have had better

Pours a peachy copper amber with a 1 1/2 finger creamy eggshell white head. Nose is weird, smells like rubber and mango, sharp and a bit phenolic. Flavor is sharp as well, fusel alcohol and spicy hops.

Uh oh, a lost rating. Had this one a while back, forgot to rate it, although I swear I remember writing it. Must not have hit submit. Not a particularly great DIPA. Ah well.

Bottle thanks to Bill! Poured clear, lighter orange with a short, dense cap of eggshell head. The aroma picked up juicy, candied pineapple and floral notes over sweet caramel malts and a touch of vanilla.. quite candy-like.. enjoyed it. The flavor opened with tangy citrus and peppery notes, leading to sweet caramel and some grapefruit meat at the core.. more peppery and floral notes on the edges, but the overall bitterness remained a bit constrained.. slight oxidation was present.. sweetness and sourness clashed a little on the finish. Medium-bodied with very tightly packed carbonation on the palate.. a bit too sweet overall.. balance was alright, though. This was not bad on any front, but it failed to pass the threshold into the "good" realm.
