on tap at Natty Green’s brewpub in Greensboro, NC. small creamy egg nog head. lighty, nutty flavors in the background. slightly bitter. intense burntness, burnt toast. doughy yeast. thick bands of lacing. a hint of alcohol. sweet finish that can be attributed to brown sugar. ok as far as browns go.

Pours a very dark brown almost black. Light off white head. Decent lace. Flavor is a slight fruit sweetness. Somewhat boring run of the mill brown.

Pours from the bottle with a deep, ruby-tinted brown color beneath a big, billowy, sticky tan head. The aroma features a wonderful caramel sweetness, but also a bit of toasted nuts that give an indication of some substance beneath the sweetness. The flavor doesn’t quite deliver on the suggestions of the aroma, but there is still a pleasant combination of light, sweet caramel, a little coffee and milk, and a bit of earthiness. Unfortunately, the fine, prickly carbonation does not complement the smooth, sweet flavors, and it even distracts and drowns out the flavor to some extent. Overall, this beer makes a great first impression, and if not for the texture, I would want to have another right away. Even so, this is still a nice brown ale that I will likely come back to.

Dark brown with an amber hue. Some chocolate and roast aroma, but nothing overwhelming. Good bittering hops, although I wouldn’t mind seeing more aroma hops used.

Tap. Incredibly dark brown, tettering towards black in the right light. Tan head slow to dissipate. Full aroma of chocolate and nutmeg, creamy and strong taste. Flowed so well I didn’t want to stop drinking. Great with a meal.

I’m not a huge brown ale person, but this is the most complex and best tasting brown I have ever had.

A nice deep chesnut brown body with a thin head. An aroma of roasted malt and bitter sweet chocolate notes. Smooth but no after flavor. Kind of a bland bitter sweetness.

From tap @ Natty’s: Dark brown appearance with hints of amber and slight tan head. Aroma is nice mix of nut, malt, caramel, and coffee. Slight bitter taste with hints of above aroma flavors. Smooth and light body with a good finish. One of their best beers. Note: Old Town Brown on tap at restaurant far superior to bottles sold at local stores.

A pleasing aroma with a nice flavor. Hoppy over tones. A real nice social drink that is not to high in abv.
