dark cloudy amber, wispy beige head, light malt aroma with traces of cinamon, lots of sweet malt flavor with a candy like quality including a nice vanilla flavor balanced with light spicyness including the cinamon, the spiced are kept very light as to add character rather than take over,

12 ounce bottle from Lowes Foods in Hickory, NC, opened 4/7/11. Pours a clear copper color with a large frothy tan head. Good head retention and lacing. The aroma is bready and toffeeish with bitter hops and a nutty finish. The taste is toffee and big spicy notes. Faint hops in the finish. Medium bodied.

Draft. Pours deep amber with an off white head. Light spicy aroma with coriander and sweet malts. The flavor has sweet and toasty malts, cinnamon-like spices, and some light citric notes. Pretty good.

Keg @ Sedona. Man, I live for these mediocre spice/herb/vegetable ticks. The pour’s deep amber with a small head. The nose is caramel, toasted brown bread. Burnt cherry pie. The taste is brown sugar, twigs, caramel. A bit of shag tobacco. Medium body, dull on the palate. Not great.

On tap at Tyler’s, Raleigh, just before Yule. Reddish brown pour of an indistinct quality, with a medium carbonation and head, very little retention. Nose is heavy Christmas cookie and malts. Reckon that’s what they were going for, though I continue to be suspicious of these kinds of beers unless it’s cold out and the beer is called Anchor. Okay, that’s unfair but there was something so depressingly anonymous and confectionary about this beer that it didn’t really seem like beer to me. And the little wit notes in the finish? Not for me.

Dark ruby copper with 1-2 fingers of light tan head. Nose is mild, light toasted grain and a cereal character with a subdued spice profile and light vegetal notes. Nice spice and malt character in the mouth. The spices are kept in check and don’t overwhelm. Dry finish and light body.

Bottle. Very hazy reddish brown with a small white head. Nose is spicey--cinnamon and nutmeg up front, some orange peel lingering, anise. Some wet dog lingering. Flavor is similar, not overly spiced, but just sort of bland. But don’t get me wrong, this is much more drinkable than I expected. A bit of citrus in the end, slightly soapy and spicy finish.

Sampled on draft at the mellow mushroom at burlington. Nice clear mahogany pour with some traces of offwhite head. The aroma, while a bit underwhelming, does have hints of caramel and biscuit. Flavor adds the gingerbread spices, but not overpowering. Pretty decent for a spiced brew.
