Fathead started out as a Strong Scotch Ale but has morphed over time into Barleywine territory. This beer features an addition of dark brown sugar to boost the alcohol and contribute a unique caramel/molasses character. Hopped with just enough Centennial and Cascade to offset the slight sweetness of this big, warming beer.

Bottle. Parks dark brown. Vanilla and oak nose. Flavor of dark caramel with a hint of roast, and I pick up lots of black licorice. Very dry and perhaps too overattenuated for my tastes

This beer is tough to judge. At 12.1%, it doesnít feel like it has a pinch of any kind. I sometimes struggle with barleywines because theyíre so strong, but this doesnít do that to me. I almost resent it for it. Itís stronger to smell than it is to taste, and I donít get the whiskey notes I expected to since itís aged in whiskey barrels, but itís a solid beer overall thatís pretty easy to drink.

Nebraska fat head 12.1% With a wispsy off-white head, itís a †deep orange gold pour with a sharp oaky burning green hop aroma. Medium to full bodied with a rich fruity spice snd malt flavor. The booziness is too sharp but it is good. 3.6-3..7

On draught. Pours jet black with a minimal khaki head. Nose is coffee and bourbon. Taste is moderate bourbon up front with the dark roast malt backbone coming through after. Creamy mouth feel but not cloying. Medium length finish. Very well made and not a typical barley wine. Very nice.

A better than average barleywine and decent offering from a solid brewery. Lots of caramel, honey, with a brandy finish. Tried at the Omaha Extreme Beerfest in 2016 with Jess and the parents.

Dry, boozy and bitter, with a pleasant sweetness. Great companion to food, and very enjoyable all by itself. Plenty of floral elements from the hops, too.

Sampled at festival. Dry and bitter, some alcohol and there are hops as well. One of the more dry barleywines I have had in a long time. Aftertaste is dry with more alcohol.
