COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich, full bodied Barley Wine with a wonderfully warming character from the malts & dark brown sugars. Held to the light, its burgundy color is fitting for a bigger beer that has aromatics that hint of the oak, the whiskey, the somewhat sweet nature, and molasses that makes this beer truly unique. Using Stranahanís Whiskey barrels, we aged this beer for 6 months to impart a small amount of oak tannins and the whiskey character that combine to elevate this beer beyond its original entry into this world.

750mL. First Nebraska rate! The pour is a clear, deep amber with loads and loads of particulate. Small, tan lace. Aroma is buttery bourbon, vanilla, rich toffee and caramel. Taste is sweet, dark cherry, spicy alcohol/boozy, nice bourbon/coconut, gets a little sickly sweet. Palate is thinner, watery. Reminds me of bourbon on the rocks.

I am very glad I paid half price for this because this does not impress all that well. I imagine one more year will help mellow it out but itís not worth the money. Nevertheless, the booziness comes through big time on the nose with whiskey and light vanilla. The palate is thin yet the body is sticky with molasses that has more whiskey but drops off hard; some acerbicness at the end too.

Full disclosure--Iím generally not a fan of beer aged in hard liquor barrels--if I want to drink scotch or whiskey or bourbon Iíd drink that instead of beer--but I picked this up on special from a local store. Aroma is predictably boozy, with wood, fruit, and a little grassy hops. Flavor is the same, harsh and boozy with very little in terms of balance. Probably fine if youíre into this sort of thing, but I just find this gimmicky and harsh.

Pours an orange color with a good head and nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is red apple, fruity hops... some floral character, & some orange marmalade.

The flavor is big and rich without being overly sweet, displays some toffee and nice red apple fruitiness. The bourbon is well integrated, not really subtle, but most definatly not overbearing. The beer has a touch of spiciness and some warming alcohol.

cool.

Bottle, 75cl, at Stone Brewing World Bistro and Gardens. A brown one, almost clear, with a minimal sized off-white head. Thereís caramel, dried fruits, some alcohol, pine cones, fluor tooth paste, mint notes and a faint roasted hint in the aroma. Full body, lightly warming and with a pleasant carbonation. Thereís not much impact from the booze, neither in the aroma nor in the flavor. Lasting finish with a good bitterness. Wow, first Nebraska beer and itís this good. Amazing. 130817

Pours clear amber/brown with a small off-white head. Aroma has notes of malt, toffee, dried fruits, oak, alcohol and hint of vanilla. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with a long warm, dried fruity, oak, vanilla and toffee finish. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

This is one of those barleywines that is basically just beer-strength bourbon. Not the worst thing in the world, but kind of generic. Heaps of caramel, oak, whiskey, pudding, coconut.

Bottle. Pours a cloudy amber color with effectively zero head on it. Nose is quite malty and a little bit boozy to me. Taste has just a hint of sweetness thatís followed very quickly by the bourbon in there. Has a bit of a bite on it. Quite interesting...

Hazy amber color with a white head. The aroma is full of caramel and oak, with a hint of maple. The flavor is odd. I get some light funk, caramel and grape notes up front. As the beer warms a strong dose of brett comes through, which I assume was responsible for the funk. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.
