Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Going further, this Stranahan’s Whiskey barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates, the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palette are the hops – held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouthfeel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties.

An aroma of black currents, malt and bourbon, pours a good looking black color with a lasting tan head with nice lacing. Taste of malt whiskey, with a hint of coffee, and smoke. Full bodied oily feel with a light mildly bitter phenolic finish.

Pours tar black with soapy beige head. Aroma of whiskey, chocolate, molasses, and roasted malt. Raisin, chocolate, roasted malt flavor with hints of molasses with a touch of whiskey at the back end. Exceptionally well done!

Bottle shared in Beer Temple, thanks, 3rd March 16. Pours black, aroma is single malt, chocolate, bitter. Taste is chocolate, really well integrated barrel, bitterness, some sweetness, bitter linger. Lovely

Bottle thanks to Brian! Pours cloudy mahogany, small beige head, good lacing. Aroma is roasty, coca, pine. Flavor is light plus sweet, medium plus bitter, chocolate, pine cones, hints of whiskey. Pretty damn hot. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. I honestly thought this was a black IPA.

Black pour with a frothy tan head. Fairly boozy aroma with notes of chocolate and roasted malts. Extremely satisfying palate, smooth and creamy, not overly heavy. Flavor is roasty and sweet with solid representation of chocolate and whiskey barrel aging. Very nice brew.

On tap at Alchemy, early 2016. Thick, sugary raisin molasses tones. Honey, booze. Big, monster Imperial Stout. Really big, unique. Raisin, plum, caramel, chocolate. Very sweet.

bomber aged for 1.5 years. going from crappy notes - good brew! normal stout stuff done well; a little vinous up front (too much aging?) but after that - very good stout basics + slight wood. well balanced. need to have again...

Aroma is barrel, whiskey, roasted malt, licorice, light coffee. Appearance is black, light brown head, poured pretty thin. Taste is real smooth, a bit of licorice, roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, barrel, and whiskey, very balanced. Mouthfeel is medium to thick body, soft to medium carbonation, lots of roasted malt aftertaste. Overall, this is very very good.

23 Jan 2016, bottle. Black. Nose is burnt malt, faintly acidic. Med body, creamy, and mildly fizzy. Dark, dark chocolate, brown sugar makes it sweet but there is still an overpowering burnt malt bitterness. Very nice!
