Bottle. Pours a viscous black with a dissipating brown head. Full bodied with a thick, oily mouthfeel. This beer has lots of dark bitter roastiness and spicy oak, with a hint of smoke. Very dry finish. Not bad, but could use a little more balance of other flavors for my tastes.

Light for an imperial stout. Flavor is roast, hops, aftertaste is smoke and ash but light. Some bourbon on the end
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Butters (3321) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - FEB 5, 2012
Sampled at SuperBowl 46. Great dark brown pour with fair brown head. Sweet, almost milk stout aroma with some bourbon/vanilla notes. Flavor is even better and kinda unique. Again, a lactose sweetness with wonderful pairing of whiskey. Dark roast, chocolate, more earthy notes and semi bitterness of dark chocolate on the finish. Very smooth. The bourbon, somehow ’thins’ the body on this one, and is not overly chewy. Very tasty brew.

750ml bottle from Wine and Cheese Place poured into a snifter. Pours black with about 2 fingers of dark tan head. Aroma of whiskey, vanilla, coco, coffee and a little black jelly bean. Taste is light bitter. Lots of coffee and whiskey with a good bit of dark chocolate and oak. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Soft carbonation and a very long finish. Overall, this beer is great. I wish I would have bought another one to age.

The pour is black in color with a small tan head. Smells strongly of roasted malt, licorice, and char. There is definitely some booze/heat to it, too. A little bit of dark chocolate and coffee. The flavor is no more impressive. Intense roast and booze flavor with a bit of molasses and licorice. Maybe some dark chocolate and astringent coffee. Meh.

Bottle shared at Hophead #5 annual tasting. Small black pour into my tulip glass. Notes of chocolate, roasted malts, with good bourbon balance. Nice body. Wish I had a bigger pour of this one. It was good but no worth the $25 price tag you see at many places.

A nice bourbon barrell stout. Aroma was nice..very complex with vanilla, oak and bourbon all throughout. Pour was a nice deep dark brown/near black with a one finger cherry/mahogany head. Taste was nice as well. A delicious blend of roasted malt, caramel and vanilla with the bourbon weaving in and out. This beer is very woody, a little too much at some points. As it warmed the bourbon mellowed and came out more as an aftertaste. The wood almost sharpened to the point where it felt like you were getting splinters in the mouth. Nice carbonation and very complex bee.r

Poured from 750 obtained in a trade. Dark brown witn a very minimal tan head. Very mild nose, suprisingly so. Mild chocolate and coffee throughout, with a nice smooth taste. Not as boozy as expected as the alcohol seemed masked. Maybe with a little age it would improve.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Indra (2476) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - JAN 14, 2012
750ml 2011 bottle. Aroma of licorice, dark roast, chocolate, cocoa, wood, earth, faint espresso, very faint bourbon, dark fruit and some light char. Opaque black color (fancy that) with a slight, large-bubbled head. Flavor follows the aroma very closely, being all things dark and roasty, more semi-sweet chocolate, faint coffee, wood and earthiness, but features some faint, leafy hop flavor and likely what amounts to substantial bitterness, underneath all that malt, some dark, dried fruit appearing late as well. Smooth, creamy palate, full-bodied of course, but not overly so, this is not so hefty as to be overbearing. Quite tasty, all in all. Thanks to John and Amy for the sample!
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 illidurit (1629) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - JAN 3, 2012
Bottle shared at the December iteration of the Santa Cruz tasting series. Pours dark brown with an ecru froth. Chocolatey aroma, light roastiness, slight booziness. Piney hops atop dark chocolate in the flavor, plus a whole lot of whiskey. Right now I’m not interested in beers that need a hundred years of aging just to become approachable.
