COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Going further, this Stranahan’s Whiskey barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates, the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palette are the hops – held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouthfeel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties.

Bottle. Black but fairly thin, with a big expanding khaki head. Nice filmy layer on the glass. The nose exhibits caramel, black licorice, tar and marshmallow. The flavor’s smooth as hell -- lots of dark chocolate, very woody, some licorice and burnt coffee beans. Woodsy, piney. Nice coca cola flavor as it warms. Medium-light body, nice creaminess, fairly carbonated. Fizzy. Not a ton of noticeable alcohol. A smooth, woodsy, drinkable imperial stout. Good subtlety on the bourbon.

750 ml bottle, Adrien picked up in his new state of Nebraska. Much more affordable in NE. Pitch black with a nice lasting tan head. Aroma is thick chocolate, caramel candies, and nice amounts of whiskey.

The flavor is a nicely rounded by the whiskey barrel. The body is full and dense with a nicely full body. The flavor makes me think of the Ram Jam song, totally stuck in my head. Everything I want in a Impy Stout. Espresso beans, burnt barley, thick chocolate malts with a finish of mild whiskey, alcohol is only slightly noticeable. This is Damn good!

75CL. Thanks Adrien. Pitch Black. 2 finger dark tan brown, very creamy head. Aroma is plenty of licorice, coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Overall, a solid RIS aroma. Lots of chocolate and espresso taste. Good mouthfeel, really well depth and brownie batter. This is awesome. I’d like it a little bit sweeter, maybe thicker.

Bottle from Whole Foods Fairview. Pours black with a massive khaki head that seems to last forever. The aromas are vanilla, chocolate, bourbon, coffee, cherries. The mouthfeel is dry and roasty with a heavy body and light carbonation. What a great and complex beer! Cheers!

Good? Yes. Worth the $20 entry fee? Not really. There are plenty of bourbon barrel aged stouts around for 30% less that are as good or better. If you’re in Nebraska? Hell yeah! Farther afield? Maybe not. Looks great, tastes great, not worth paying a premium for.

Bottle, chillen... in my dining room... just now.
Pours black with a medium sized head and lots of lace.

Aroma is roasty with some light bourbon. Some toasted marshmallows, & some dark fruit.

Nicely sweet & fruit forward. Bitter & roasty with some light barrel character. Light alcoholic presence, a little chalky... decent.

On tap at Cottonwood. Pours a very dark brown with small beige head. The aroma is strong chocolate, cracker, roast. Medium mouthfeel, nice roast, dark chocolate, light dryness, very good.
