COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Going further, this Stranahan’s Whiskey barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates, the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palette are the hops – held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouthfeel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties.

On draft at Waldo Pizza. Opaque black with big pillowy khaki head with great retention and lacing. Caramel, vanilla, baking chocolate aroma with some coffee. Same flavors in taste with nice oakiness from barrel, alcohol apparent but not overwhelming, residual sweetness and a slight roasty bitter finish. Semi full mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Very nice beer. Great example of style and a barrel aged beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 mL bottle shared with Gus. The pour is a dark brown/light black with a thicker khaki head that falls slowly leaving a good bit of lacing. The aroma is nicely roasty with a good bit of barrel and a light whiskey. There is a decent dark chocolate mixed in. It’s very plain, but well done. The flavors are nice. There is a good barrel up front and a lovely roasty malt and lighter dark chocolate. It’s interesting. It’s a blend of heavy malt and roast and nice bitterness. The mouth feel is a little thin with a nice soft carbonation and. A lingeringly boozy roast that comes through and carries it nicely to the finish. This is a pretty tasty beer

Bottle at tasting. Black pour. Aroma of whisky, creamy chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. Nice taste of roasted malt, whisky, chocolate, quite some hops, citrus, bitter coffee and some subtle red fruit. Very nice.

(En fût à Flights El Segundo): Un décadent amalgame de caramel, chocolat et nougat surmontés d’une touche fruitée, fumée et très légèrement soya. Avec la richesse de sa texture, c’est du gros calibre.

Poured at home into a snifter. Deep black with a tan head. Goo dlacing. 2012 vintage. Aroma is cocoa, dark chocolate, mild coffee, cedar, oak, and some smoke/peat. Taste is woody, dark chocolate, coffee (mild), and vanilla. Medium mouth, not boozy at all. Finish is chocolate and wood. Fine beer!

Pitch black with a tan head. A rich whiskey and malty chocolate. The flavor is cocoa powder and rich malty whiskey. An incredibly smooth barrel aged beer that was really easy to drink though I heard it was better on tap.

An aroma of black currents, malt and bourbon, pours a good looking black color with a lasting tan head with nice lacing. Taste of malt whiskey, with a hint of coffee, and smoke. Full bodied oily feel with a light mildly bitter phenolic finish.
