COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Going further, this Stranahan’s Whiskey barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates, the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palette are the hops – held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouthfeel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties.

75cl bottle. I get the whisky but its not good and is all harsh with no sweet or fruity/vanilla. A little paint thinner and chocolate in the aroma. Dry and boozy with a burning finish. Oy. This is... interesting. Sorry guys, if I wanted a shot of whisky I’d take it.

Poured from a 750ml bottle that two years old, and we are listening Ran Jam. The aroma is cherries, slight brettanomyces funk, chocolate. The flavor is chocolate, brettanomyces funky cherries, slight medicinal, maltiness. The whiskey is well hidden, no heat. Tasty even with the infection. "Black Betty had a child bam-ba-lam the damn thing gone wild" just sayin’

On draught at Belmont Station for Bigger Badder Blacker Week. Pitch black color. Aroma is tobacco, oak smoke, coffee, and dark roasted malt. Taste is dark chocolate, cream, smoke, whiskey-soaked wood, and black malt. Roasting, chocolate, and whiskey notes get more pronounced as it opens up.

On draught at Belmont station - pours pitch black with small but prominent tan head. Nose of booze, chocolate, and vanilla. Taste is of warming booze, vanilla, oak, and chocolate. Very complex and well worth trying. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Has an odd flavor that is light and fruity with a whiskey finish. Has a dark brown color and light brown head with a whiskey aroma. Very unique.

Pours a solid black with a brown head and lacing. The aroma has strong bourbon notes with some chocolate, coffee, and dark malt. It has strong bourbon and rich, malty middle with a rich bourbon and chocolate finish over a thick, chewy body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml bottle poured a clear dark reddish brown with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of bourbon, roasted malt, oak, vanilla, dark chocolate and dark fruit. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of roasted malt, dark chocolate, bourbon, oak and vanilla with a smooth lingering roasty oak finish.

RBSG 2013. Lots of roasted malt, but far too boozy for my taste. A well made beer ruined by too much bourbon. Roasted grain and a heavypalate.

This is good, but way too heavy on the whiskey. Would truly benefit from a 50-50 split with the non-whiskey version. As I've said before, barrel aging is hard! B- ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
